Flying Scotsman smoke effects on RW 110.8b

Post by Neptune50006 »

I bought Flying Scotsman today and think it's a great model, except for one thing. The smoke effects are practically non existent. I know that RW's smoke effects are not the best thing about the sim anyway, but I would have thought that struggling up Beattock with 11 on would have caused more than the wisp that I was getting from her!

Now, I am currently using the old version of RW, due to the small font issue. Could this have anything to do with the poor smoke?

ps...

Here's how it should be done @2:15 :D

What setting to you have for 'Particle Effects' in the graphics options? Try setting them to High if they are not.

Of the video, I was watching this one earlier. Turn the volume up

can't speak for 4472, but for 60163, I hardly get any smoke, and my particle effects are set to high

to be quite honest if a steam engine is working hard and on the level it is possible to get very little smoke but if it is going up hill then it should be producing plenty of smoke
alas is funny sometimes......

If it's being fired and driven properly, I don't come into that catagory I'm afraid

I was wondering this matter too - as it's not the only engine to suffer from it. The steam effects all seem to correspond to 'scorching hot summer's day', where faint wisps of steam waft back down the train. Unfortunately, everywhere you would realistically drive in the Flying Scotsman (i.e. ECML) are places associated with being cold or wet. :o

Also, why does the smoke come out sideways on 4472? It also does it on some other locos. Whilst I'm not against the simulation of steam being caught in the wind, it shouldn't do it all the time.

Hi
I too have the weak smoke effects with 4472.I think it has the same in game effects that Tornado has,the whistle is the same, the cylinder
cocks are the same. When driving the loco it is like Tornado.Ok i know the real 4472 is still in bits but surely a loco that is approved by the NRM
should have the correct sound etc, they do have a vast archive.Even going on You Tube you can find out what it actually sounds like. However
it is a stunning model, even after a whlle you get used to those awful smoke deflectors,i still prefer it as the single chimney version.
I suppose you could say that Tornado is the new Flying Scotsman.Perhaps the A1,s were built to replace the A3,s anyway.

Anybody fancy doing some new smoke effects we did have some in MSTS which i used all the time

Thanks
