I agree, the new HUD is brilliant.

In general, I have really enjoyed the game, downloaded it off Steam tonight, due to not having Railworks (but previously having dipped in and out of Rail Simulator), have completed the FGW tutorial and halfway through at scenario on Newcastle-York line of route and it seems to be going pretty well, still feels a bit strange having played (and still play) MSTS almost solidly for 8 years. So it seems I have two brilliant simulators to play on :D

Finally, can anyone recommend what add-on's to purchase for RW2?

I was thinking of purchasing Isle of Wight, really liked how that looked and it's a route very easily forgotten about.

IOW is almost an obligatory purchase, no only is it a simply stunning route, it is required in about 90% of the freeware 3rd party routes. You can't really go wrong with it.

I am enjoying the new Railworks, nobody seems to have mentioned the quality of the display. I think I have detected a small frame rate improvement. Also, I think I detect an improvement in rendering, the rendering seems to have slightly increased saturation. Am I finding improvements where there are none?

I don't think there is any improvement to the visuals, I'm sure it's just a placebo effect because it says RW2 'on the box'. I might be wrong but I would guess that rsc would have been singing it from the rafters if they'd made a breakthrough in the visual performance department because this is an area that has many users hung up.

I would guess it's the Class 03.

Unless he's taking a Tiger Woods approach to building models and has another 12 or so shunters on the go that we don't know about.

The good news is again that RS.com is keeping promises for free upgrades, even though some customers seem not to believe this. I think we should remember that until now we got far more upgrades and support than ever has been provided for MSTS.

I like most of the new menu structure. There are still some things not clear. I discovered that when I edit my scenarios, the engine names appear in the list. Still wondering if this holds when I publish the updates. The major missing thing is support of the development cycle for creating scenarios. After editing< i am still forces to start playing the scenario (there is no quit in the editor). Also I cannot start playing a scenario from the edit scenario menu and I lost the edit button in the menus for playing by engine or route.

I have some mixed feelings on the HUD. It looks nice, works fine for most of the functions, but it is very HUGE. It hides too much of the screen. I prefer using the keyboard, but I need the additional information the new HUD provides. So a keyboard mode for the HUD would be great. Just show the info, but no buttons. I also would like to receive instructions and comments in the destination field (where now the next stops are reported). This is less intrusive while driving.

Anyway, looking forward to further developments. Thanks a lot till so far RS.Com team!!!!

I am happy, I have driven a 37 :D

The program seems much more stable with not one single SBHH yet, Steam worked perfectly, the new front end is a great improvement, no scenarios that have failed to load and I think there has been a little bit of tinkering with the dispatcher. I am happy that others are happy with the new driving HUD and the updated manuals which are also well written and presented for newcomers and oldies with poor memories.

I am also happy that the Challengers seem to have had little or no problems with the update and hopefully we will see some new level crossings going into the routes along with inspection pits, the new sleeperless track and loads of scenery from Derek's Building Asset Pack.

I now have to go and lie down for a while in a dark place to recover from the excitement

I'm very happy with it. Really like the new HUD which against all expectations actually feels less obtrusive. Everything seems to have gone smoothly regarding the installation, though I admit I haven't checked all of my DLC yet. The new menu interfaces make selecting a scenario or going into the editor much easier, particularly the option to start a new scenario from the menu rather than the faff of going into an existing one and dragging and dropping a marker to the correct spot. Also, I for one am quite happy that the world building tools haven't been given a major overhaul at this stage - it's taken me long enough to get the hang of the existing ones!

Had my first legitimate test at the stability of the new version last night. Ran a APH WCML scenario that used the Pendo from Glasgow to Carlisle. 99 miles in one sitting later I had arrived safe and sound. No issues loading, no issues with tracks not appearing etc. Good stuff.

That's a first for you on WCMLN isn't it, Bill. Congratulations.
