So any takers for this thread to reach the full 100 pages before RW2 is released next week?

Hi,

If superelevation was to be implemented, and considering that working level crossings got mentioned in the mail, I guess you would have a fistful of GIFs all over your screen flashing: "only 7 days before experiencing superelevation!" :D

(Well, we may belong to the per cent of population that rates SE higher than working level crossings, though. )

Anyway, I find it encouraging that the dev team keeps investing in its product. This new update can only be a good sign.

That's classic Brian

I very much like the new scenario selection UI.
I'd not really thought about the current one much (might be because I spent 99% of my time building things rather than selecting scenarios and driving!) but seeing the new one, the functionality is obviously a big improvement with all the filtering options and much more information available.
Nice one RSC.

Personally I thought it was nice to put some humans to the forum names as well. Surprisingly they looked less like demons trying to mug grannys and more like train fans/software developers/modellers. Who'd have thunk?

Railworks was a step forward, though its depressing to see the relatively mediocre reviews they have on Amazon, mainly as a result of new users commenting on early versions of Railworks. Bundling the upgrades with a new release to me looks a very good idea therefore. It keeps the pot boiling, and gives the correct impression the product is continuing to be developed.
I was wondering why the 're-branding', but I think you may have got it here - if it's released as Railworks 2 it maybe gets a new page / reviews on Amazon and similar sites and people who didn't buy it before may be tempted again.

Looking forward to the update, but I'd be surprised if there was anything else major apart from what is in the announcement.

I hope we finally get a working coffee maker that doesn't get clogged causing the filter bin to overflow.

This is an expected update and the emphasis is on making it easier for users and particularly new users to enjoy the game more.

Whilst I am sure that there are numerous improvements to the core program, it seems unlikely that there will be significant changes to the route building and content creation tools, which is OK, but it seems inevitable that there will be a few problems for RS.com to sort out.

This sort of re-launcing of the product is going to attract new users to our hobby and that has to be a good thing. The guys in the Route Building Challenge will have an opportunity to use the new default feature(s) and may well be finishing to a larger base of RailWorks users to enjoy their creations.

There has been no mention of changes to the way the dispatcher works (yet) and I would not have expected that anyway based on statements that have been made recently, and there are bound to be gripes about other old problems that have not been fixed, but I think we have moved on from there and just have to accept the shortcomings whilst embracing and enjoying the advances and improvements .. and all at no cost :o

How cool is that 8)

If anyone has watched the video, how cool does the menu interface look with what seems a much easier scenario menu and a chance to look at what you are driving before you even do!

Great news, they did say they would keep developing. Rome was not built in a day.

Nice post Doug. Put all user gripes aside, we are where we are because they have stuck with it, I believe many would have closed, buggered off and left us with what we already have and said "get on with it".
