All speculation, of course, but I highly doubt the game engine will perform any differently although I would love - LOVE - to be proven wrong.

Pete, while I agree with what you are saying, my Post above was not meant to be a scare monger, but just that previous Upgrades (Patches) have sometimes caused quite a few problems after the introduction of 'new' features and this could cause many headaches for those who are busy with the Challenge.

Hopefully this will not be the case, I just thought as no one knew this was imminent it might have been better if the Challenge could have been completed before RSC released Railworks 2.

Edit:

I must add that I for one welcome any improvements that can be made to the core RW and a free one is even better. :wink:

Having just spent two hours tediously placing catenary, my very inital reaction opening the email was NOO! :lol:

But reading on, it sure does just sound like a raft of updates all at once, with likely a few core code changes too. And everything that is mentioned is on the RS.com website, so again it's not too surprising. I very much doubt they'll be projected headlights and superelevation implemented though. On the whole tough, it doesn't sound too back.

I like the way the Email says that it is the most significant advance in Train Simming in over a decade with such features as Operational Level crossings....MSTS has had them since 2002!

I'm not trying to start a flame war but we've all been here before when RS became RW, forked out £30 quid for what was in essence an upgrade :o At least this time it's free (To start with anyway)

If you were upgrading, why did you fork out £30 when all users got a discount?

Secondly, have a bit of feeling for Trainz users who get these upgrades, regularly, but are expected to pay. At least you did give them half credit for the free part then decided it might only be to start with.

If its for free, why is there bad blood in the thread? Pointless. Read Petes post further back, sums it up perfectly.

Nice to see. And very generous of RSC especially in these times. Look forward to see what other features are being included.

Also got to say im glad it's coming out on the 18th and not the Friday since I will get to try it before Fallout: New Vegas is released.

Indeed, they have done wonders developing the original program, which even fans would probably agree was less than optimum. Railworks was a step forward, though its depressing to see the relatively mediocre reviews they have on Amazon, mainly as a result of new users commenting on early versions of Railworks. Bundling the upgrades with a new release to me looks a very good idea therefore. It keeps the pot boiling, and gives the correct impression the product is continuing to be developed.

Contrast this with our beloved MSTS whose development over the past 9 years has been almost totally due to the community. Railworks to some extent has been the reverse. :)

Lets remember how much of the content from Railsimulator was able to be used in Railworks. Pretty much all of it as I remember.

Looking more than Flameworks to me here. I am with whoever it was calling it a "funky patch". Cab controls were announced a while back and also changes to career system, so this newsletter isn't exactly new, but just putting an end to all those rumors. Hopefully it'll include more than just these two points and some work is done on the core.
Oh and working level crossings? I never understood why so many are so desperate on them. Ok it looks nice, but shouldn't they be closed long before the train arrives at the crossings? Or does it mean we now can lay roads across tracks and cars will really stop? In that case I'd appreciate it too.
Anyway, let's wait for more good old news and thumbs up to RSC 8)

Well done to RSC for making it free. I'm sure it will be an improvement (once we're used to it 8) ). I'm also sure there will be the usual number of individual problems. Just remember to back everything up before release day.

I wasn't moaning about the release, I'm looking forwards to it, just surprised that, for those of us with RW1, it will cost us absolutely no money whatsoever which is good in my mind I currently couldn't afford to buy another version just for an improved simulation. Still haven't been able to justify IOW or other expensive add ons so...

Now, must get around to playing RW this week so that the new features stand out next week when it DLs :D
