Fitting Handbrakes and Locomotive brakes

Post by Pete92 »

Hello guys. I really enjoy driving the Hawthorne saddle tanks around but it doesnt half annoy me that they only have the train brake as a means of stopping. Other locomotives such as the DT terrier have hand brakes.

The IOW Invincible has a locomotive brake that does nothing.

Can anyone tell me how to give these locomotive handbrakes and working locomotive brakes?

AFAIK, the loco brake simply doesn't work on locos with only a vacuum train brake. IRL, the loco brake would normally be steam worked, but RW hasn't got provision for that internally. Because all the diesels are air or dual fitted, it works for them.

Fitting a handbrake should still work though, but it will just be as a parking brake with on/off control only. Don't ask me how to do it though, I haven't built any locos.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

You can add a working locomitve brake to a steam loco, but it has to be a direct air brake. It does work :D
