Crashing Armstong WCMLN scenarios

Post by larch »

Good evening all

I'm having problems running the Armstrong scenarios for the WCMLN. I get a few miles out of Glasgow or Carlisle and the programme crashes. It doesn't with the default scenarios, but they don't have so much AI traffic.

I wondered if my PC might not be up processing the graphics, so I turned down densities in various graphics options this evening: no luck. I got the error message 'failed to save dump file to 'c:\TempDump\Railworks - v110.86.dmp' (error31)'

Does anyone know what this means, and if there's anything I can do to get the scenarios to work?

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU running at 2.4 GHz, 4 Mb of RAM and a 1 Gb graphics card - is this not up to the job?

I got the same error near Motherwell running "Carstairs Split" - the Career scenario.

I fixed the problem by reducing the level of detail a notch.

All the best

Not running EAX in a 64 bit environment by any chance?

I wasn't. Just reducing the amount of detail being displayed seemed to deal with the problem.

Try turning your sound quality down to 16 bit, 44100Hz CD Quality. That fixed it for me even with EAX and Alchemy still in use.
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.60GHz,
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 3072MB
Motherboard: Intel Z68 (Socket 1155), 8MB DDR3 RAM. On-board Sound
Windows 7 64
I Mean, that should do it?

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

I'm not sure what EAX and Alchemy are! What do they do, and where are the switches?

Alchemy / EAX are Creative Sound Card things. If not Creative, dont worry yourself about it.

I appear to be having these crashes too, even though all the default scenarios work fully ok?

If you only have 4 megabits of RAM, then I'm surprised you can even load Windows. Do you mean GB for gigabytes?

It's also important to understand which type of graphics card you have, not just how much VRAM it has. It's fairly likely that you have the wrong drivers for it. If it's an ATI-based one, use Steam's AMD driver update feature. If it's Nvidia-based, get the latest stable drivers from their website.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

I think it is the amount of Ai traffic involved, perhaps deleting a few may help?

You're quite right of course: it's 4Gb of RAM. Silly me.

Anyway, I keep notching back the graphics slider (twice so far) and also things like shadows etc, but the programme is still crashing (I haven't yet made it all the way along the line). I get the error message "failed to save to dump file to 'c:\TempDump\Railworks - v110.8b.dmp' (error 31)".

Does anyone know what this means?

Have you got GameBooster? get it for free and run it every time you run RW's, also exit the launch screen after starting RW's, and try not using the F3 monitor at all. if you have anyhting running like MSN can cause an SBBH too, especially when yer mate comes online.

Hello there,

I have followed the advice of previous posts about the crashing scenarios, but they are still crashing :bad-words:

Where can I get the Gamebooster that is recommended and will it be 100% working so there will be no crashes, as I have spent £29.98 for the route and scenario pack.
