BVE sounds in MSTS?

Post by tender »

Hi, I was wandering whether the sounds in the BVE train simulator could somehow be manipulated to work in MSTS? Because the A62/A60 sounds used in BVE are very accurate and detailed. Has anyone attempted to merge the two yet?

Regards

It should be possible.
You would need to convert the sounds into .wav forms that msts recognises i.e. 11025KHz 16bit Mono (or Stereo).
(The bog standard Microsoft Sound Recorder can do this)

However, you need to check the original sounds to make sure that there are no copyright restrictions.

Yes well if I can get it to work, it would be for personal use until the use of sounds is authorised by the authors. However my experience is very low and a previous attempt to merge sounds from another sim into MSTS resulted in msts changing the speed/pitch of the sounds :-?

Hi Kris

Use the following for the .wav file conversion:

Audio format Wav PCM
Average data rate 22.50 kb/sec
Sample rate 11.025 kHz
Audio sample size 16 bit
Channels 1: Mono

The following applies to cab sms files:

Audio format Wav PCM
Average data rate 44.10 kb/sec
Sample rate 11.025 kHz
Audio sample size 16 bit
Channels 2: Stereo

Kindest regards
Ray

Ok last question before I give it a go, is there any recommendable .wav converting software which lets you do the above?

Also i'd like to point out the sounds that come with the MSTS A62 Stock are brilliant :) I just mean this in an experimental sense, can it be possible to use one with the other.

Unfortunately the converter doesn't have "22.50kb/s" it has 21, which I suppose will have to do unless theres a way of creating custom settings (I am using the "file/properties/convert" function
