Class 142 DMU

Fire up your 3D modelling tool and start building some rolling stock, or find out what others are previewing here. If you have questions about how to make the blueprints work or what names mean what in models, here's the place to find out your answers.

Class 142 DMU

Post by Darpor »

I am going to start a thread on this, not sure where I am going with it yet because I do have a lot of commitments with route building which takes up the majority of my time. I actually started it yesterday, I wanted a bit of time off route building and to test myself with something new, learning the finer arts of 3D modeling if you will so what you see so far obviously has a crudeness about it. So yesterday was a steep learning curve to get the shape somewhat correct and to resemble a Class 142. I then continued tonight and created a basic 1024x1024 texture to unwrap over the model to see if it looked even more like it should do! A steep learning curve, but I am quite happy with what I have achieved so far.

As for future plans, will we have this in game? Well, I have been thinking about the possibility of refining it and releasing it as a static model in upcoming scenarios first and foremost as I feel it would add something to stations like Newcastle and Darlington, it is after all drawn to plan and to scale so that wouldnt be a problem. I could then see where I could go after that and possibly get a working model but that would be some way off.

Thats Brilliant Darren :D Can't wait to have a nice ride in it  I wouldn't mind if there wasn't a 3d interior for this model, we just need more rolling stock especially DMUs :D

You're picking up the whole modelling lark a lot faster than I did way back when. Good stuff. Horrible loco, but good model. :D

Great Darren, The 142 Pacer is a real big miss from Railworks and it's great to see one finally in production after many false dawns on the forums. Good luck with this, I know the 142 is not that well liked but there is no escaping it is one of the most used DMU's out there.

Regards Mick. :D

If it is any use to anyone, I recently came across some exterior and interior publicity colour slides taken by GMPTE of a brand-new 142. They may be of help to someone, please drop me a PM if you're serious about making a 142 and want some reference stuff showing them when just out of the factory.

PS people who just want to see the photos need not apply, they are the copyright of the Greater Manchester Transport Society (see my signature below) and although the Society is happy to allow their use to further interest in public transport (eg by helping a model) they are not for general distribution.
