Armstrong Powerhouse.....a request/suggestion

Post by ghawk2005 »

Hi.

I had a thought earlier today when playing railworks, I dunno if anyone else would like this, but would it be possible to record some better track joint sounds for the sim? The current sounds are ok, but if you listen to some of the 'clickety clack' from BVE its much more realistic sort of a sound.

Anyone else interested or is it just me? hehe

I am ashamed to say that to me, sounds are even more important than graphics. One of the greatest let downs in RW is track sounds

Yes, i also give full support to this issue.
Often, they can barely be heard and not that realistic really.

Well I was looking at some recording some of my own, but I don't want to rain on anyone's parade.

You won't be, Tankski, seeing as no one has committed to it :)

Well, we did get much better flange squeal from SaMa1, just needs a quick overwrite for each loco/coach you want, but well worth it. Shows it can be done.

This is something I definitely intend taking a look at. I've already got a pretty convincing flange sound implemented so hopefully I maybe able to sort something out regarding joint sounds. The problem is that it's hard to implement these sounds sim-wide with the advent of many developer folders with locomotives that reference to various locations but for the default stuff it shouldn't be too hard.

The default track sounds are the only bad thing remaining about the sim for me. The snare drum sound is actually pretty dreadful if I'm being honest! I'd be a happy simmer to have those replaced, proper track sounds are on par with importance as proper engine sounds, the classic clickety clack is an iconic sound and something that unfortunately railworks gets an F minus for!

Anything that sorts this issue would be massively appreciated. The default track sounds are laughable.
