Dual Monitor help

Post by 47522 »

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get RW to work across my two monitors. Both are identical Samsung T200 HD's at 1680x1050.
I've tried every 'dual monitor' resolution up to 3360x1050 from within RW only to get the message "settings are not usable".

Has anyone had any success without the use of a TripleHead2Go?

Thanks in advance!
Regards
Matt

You need the Matrox gear to achieve it.

If you have a ATI card you can do it using the ATI EyeFinity technology.

I have an ATI 5850 and can span most games and apps across 2 or 3 monitors, unfortunately Railworks is missing the 4800x1200 resolution in the options, so I can't try it with that as it appears to only want to use the native resolution of the screens and refuses to work with others. (It seems to have just about every other resolution option though).

Thanks for the replies.

I have a Nvidea 9800GT.

I take it Maxtrox isn't a simple software driver thing?

I have an older Nvidia 7800 Golde sample and have been able to run it successfully on two monitors using the standard Nvidia control panel. The two monitors are both 1680 x 1050 resolution, on LG, one Acer. No problems with railworks running on these side by side. As I recall I set my desktop to spread across both monitors first, not clone view. Only problem I had was when I went back to one monitor again, but it was a windows rather than Railworks issue.

Would you be so kind as to tell me what settings you're using for Nvidia control panel and RW? I also have two 1680x1050 monitors and would like to give it a try.

Thanks in advance.

I would think that Hotzroller is running XP. - a lot of things for gaming were possible in XP that aren't in Vista or 7 - so much for progress :)

Your quite right I am running XP service pack 3. The Railworks resolution I used was 3360 x 1050. Might upgrade when windows 7 is a little less problematic. Reminds me of the situation with 2000 then XP, stayed with windows 98 until XP was less buggy and ran a dual boot with both for a few years. As with 2000/XP I am left with the feeling that microsoft used their customers to beta test with Vista, before moving on to windows 7. Might not be reality, but it sure feels like it. Deja vu anyone??

Prepare to invest in some hardware if you go to 7! Dual monitor don't work unless you go down the ATI route or have a matrox adaptor (hardware) :)

What problems are there with Windows 7 ? I have been using it ever since the original beta versions some 2 years ago and have never had any problems. XP is no longer supported and is now around 10 years old. Although Vista had some problems (mainly user induced), Windows 7 has been stable ever since it was released and is far faster than XP ever was (I still have XP on my second machine so that I can test software for backward compatability, but really it is chalk and cheese when comparing the two).

The problem with not being able to use 2 monitors on Windows 7 with Nvidia cards is a Nvidia driver limitation, not a Windows 7 problem.

Hi, Alex,

I also have windows 7 (64 Ultimate), and a nvidia gtx 295, which I believe is a reasonbly good card, yet I haven't been able to set up dual monitors with RW correctly.

What settings are you using in Nvida control panel?

My appologies Manuel.

I was not thinking about Railworks itself I was thinking Windows 7
I can't get it to work either, even though there is an option for dual monitor setup in RW it does not work.

Cheers mate,
