WR variant is presumably the changed smoke deflectors. After a bad rail crash (I think it was at Steventon) due to the handrails on the smoke deflectors obstructing a danger signal, Western Region removed the handrails in favour of holes cut in them. Look up Hornbys Britannia Apollo and you will see what I mean.
LMR also seem to have made a similar mod, which is what the version on IHH webpage looks like. Done a bit differently though.

Yes I think the LMR and WR versions are the ones with the smoke deflector modifications due to complaints about bad visibilty caused by the handrails on the deflectors, indeed leading to a serious accident. The LMR version should be the one with the hand hold cups as shown on the IHH website; the WR version had oval shaped holes (or was it vice versa ).

I suspect after WR threw away (ahem) passed on the Britannias in favour of our beloved double chimney Castles and Kings that the LMR would have been using both versions. Ill have to check me Britannia book to see if they modified the WR versions to LMR version. Probably not, they even had route availablity spots on the side of Britannias and 9Fs for yonks afterwards...

Wonder how they will restore Britannia when they role her out in original black colours?

Thanks for confirming the LMR and WR configurations.
I found the following info on the net:

Noted by C.J. Allen in British Pacific locomotives (page 207): 70026 Polar Star working an excursion from Treherbert to Paddington failed to observe a speed restriction when being diverted from fast to slow roads at Milton led to eleven deaths on the train. It was partly due to the inexperience of the driver and fireman, and not being used to left hand drive locomotives. Poor visibility was also blamed. This led to the removal of the handrails on the smoke deflectors of Western Region locomotives..."

I have not found anything yet on the reason why the LMR modified the smoke deflectors.

I suspect when I said in another thread that it would be nice to have the Britannia for the WCML (released on Friday) that Sly may have taken that as a possible target.. . Though of course it could still be a ways off, but I think it could possibly be Friday, who knows.

One shouldn't jest about such calamitous events, Ken; why, only yesterday I had a total failure of a McVitie's Rich Tea into a mug of piping hot PG Tips -- oh, the dilemma!

Should one: a) plunge one's forefinger and thumb into the scalding brew and rescue the errant biccie before it becomes overly saturated, unmanageable and unpalatable, or, b) should one pipe it a farewell salute as it sinks to the bottom of the mug but then remember it's there so as to avoid having to strain it through one's teeth?

I opted for a) and was dexterous enough to get away with only momentary discomfort. Win! It could have been a far worse outcome though...

Ahhh Rik, I was alert enough at the time to try and save said biscuit by using ....... Another biscuit! Unfortunately this biscuit had a hairline fracture that failed just at the critical moment under the load of the first sodden (and I chose my word carefully) biscuit and the whole lot slipped beneath the surface. Bravely and ignoring scalded fingers I tried to salvage the mess, now lurking in the depths. In desperation I whipped in the teaspoon which only broke it all into smaller pieces. I sat staring at me tea for some time, reflecting on my lost biscuits - and the cup of tea that was now ruined. Oh the calamity. Life is so cruel. And the biscuits were indeed Rich Tea, and the tea was PG Tips. It was a bitter moment.
