I think Keith has already stated that it will be the route we already have available to download but then, he has a platform on which to extend further. The main point is, there are a lot more users out there than what we have on the forums and a huge amount of people will not even know Port Road exists for Railworks, this gives those users the chance to obtain a free extra.

As for compatibility with existing scenarios, who knows, maybe someone can come on and answer. However, I am going to back up the existing scenarios I have and uninstall the route to then copy them over to wherever the Steam release installs to. I imagine as it is essentially the same route, I cannot imagine there being issues where track has been removed for any reason, something that would break the scenarios.

How may we transfer scenarios, Darren? A simple copy/paste? Or must we change the scenario folder name?

I would imagine just going into the content folder, then into the Port Road route folder and copy the contents of the scenario folder found within. Then just copy these contents into the new version when it arrives. Or alternatively, just .rwp them all up.

However, I dont imagine there has been any need to clone the route so the route ID is probably going to be the same anyway and as all routes are located in the content folder, I dont envisage there being much of a problem. Steam will just overwrite your install and stick an .ncf file in your steamapps folder in anticipation of future updates. Thats my understanding anyway but if you want to be extra careful, copy these scenario files (they all have an array of funny numbers) to a safe location just in case.

Hi guys
The last 2 upgrades you could copy and paste scenarios straight over so i guess when port road 4 does get done it will be the same simple process.

Personally, I like this idea of RW spreading quality freeware routes to a wider audience, only good can come from it. I hope to see this trend continue, with the permission of the route authors, of course.

A brace of career scenarios to go with the route would also be very welcome.

It seems we're definitely batting for the same team!
Maybe we should set up a petition? ;)

Hi guys,
I'd like to offer a personal apology for the slightly ambiguous nature of the announcement and clarify my current understanding of what you can expect when the PR route becomes available on Steam and what may happen beyond that.

The existing Version 3 of the Port Road route, utilising only RW core assets, has been handed to RSC to be made available as a free download to anyone who has Railworks and has registered for the RSC newsletter. This really means that all RW users, including those who maybe don't know about UKTrainSim, will have the opportunity to get hold of the route via Steam.

For existing users of the route there are still some positives;

a) the route will, to all intents and purposes, become a RW core route and will benefit from on going updates in the core software and RSC support
b) existing known signalling issues (my bad) will be rectified in due course, though not in the initial release due to time constraints
c) RSC will provide Career Scenarios in a forthcoming update
d) the route will be an available option for RSC and third party developers to include PR scenarios with future DLC or other add-on releases
e) provision has been made for me to update the route and expand it, as has always been the intention - I will ensure that all PR route expansions are free updates.

Please note that the RSC version of the route will install as a separate route and will therefore not be compatible with the existing scenarios uploaded by various UKTS members and myself. However, when the signalling has been updated I will endeavour to produce updated and improved versions of my previous scenario packs.

I hope this clarifies what is going on and provides some reassurance that this release is intended to be something positive in the long run.

Best regards,
Keith

Will the other assets you used such as station signs and what not be included, since they are not part of core?

cheers for the clarification, by the way

Watching the fruits of the Route Building Challenge is a joy, look forward to what the next has in store for us :)

Thanks for the clarification Keith. The fact that it's now a Steam download and has RSC backing can only improve the route even more.

As a Yorkshire man, I think you will be very pleased at how the atmosphere of the route not only captures the area modelled, but other beautiful places such as the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District.
