Vale of Rheidol from BigVern

Post by chrisreb »

Just downloaded and started the freeroam as a test

Yet another masterpiece - need to work out how to attach a screenshot as words cannot do it justice. Fantastic scenery an a contrast to mainline when one wants a break. My passengers are a little alarmed at my initial inability to stick to the speed limit on the very steep descent so far. Must remember I am not driving a 9F! Must also stop gawping at the views.

Thanks Vern - this was a well kept secret!

Just downloaded it and about to have a play on it, Perhaps one day we could see some GWR narrow gauge tank engines to go with it? :P

Beautifully done route. I have some missing textures though, maybe from the Tanigumi Asset folder? - no texture folder in there. Checked again in the .rwp file, but seems to be missing.

Thanks Vern

I've checked the route with RW Tools, and have nothing missing, but you are right that the Tanigumi\Scenery\Buildings\textures folder is missing in the route download. I assume I must have already installed that folder with the Tanigumi route, so that could be your solution.

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Well done Vern,
To start and finish a top notch route like this in such a short time scale is amazing, I'm still struggling to get my first 9 miles out.
keep it up mate

Thanks for the comments. The Tanigumi assets were bundled with the rwp, maybe it's a case of enabling them under the "NorthernWarrior" developer in the RH flyout.

If others report the same problem, I'll investigate further or package the assets separately.

Re the route it isn't perfect, but it was becoming a case of get it out or risk it ending up as another failed project! Agree re the PP steamers they are a bit underpowered - the best bet as I said in the readme is to watch the steam consumption, fire manually and stop for a blow up when you get < 120 psi. The DHR locos by Richard Scott have a bit more power so might be worth trying those, though as I posted in the DHR thread there are a couple of physics issues that need to be looked at. Time permitting, I'll try and upload a few more scenarios though I'm on nights for a week now so development time is a bit limited.

It's Ok Vern we don't hold you responsible for underpowered loco's and cannot really expect you to flatten Welsh mountains!!

I've just uploaded a patch to wait approval for the file library. It appears selecting individual scenery items from a previous route, the packager did not automatically add in the textures and I had to tick the box manually. Learning point for next route I guess!

There is a small standard gauge stretch which parallels the route for a mile or so out of Aberystwyth, but this is included solely for the purpose of AI trains as moving scenery. The bread and butter is the 12 mile ng run (if you can coax the engines up the hill!).

Thanks on the patch Vern - guess the textures might be with the Tanigumi Line anyway :) .

It is a NG route - was British Railways only paying NG route right up to the BR Blue days...

I've uploaded a 3 part scenario for the route, I hope it works ok, please be gentle with feedback, it's the first thing I've ever uploaded.

Gave this a download, and a run tonight. Great job! Cool to have a full NG route to turn to.

Thank you!
