Version 2.1.34

Post by mikesimpson »

Version 2.1.34 on my site now:-

1. Checks my web-site to see if there is a newer version available and if so asks if you wish to go to the site to download it.

2. Added Search capability to the Edit Assets screen. This is useful if you make a complete Assets Index by just opening the Edit Assets option and click the Add to List button. This adds every .bin file you have to the list. I save this to my RW_Tools\Reports folder as Assets_Index.csv. Then when using the Route Editor, I open this Assets Index (use the Load List button) on a separate screen on my PC and any time you need to know the folder name or other details of an asset you are using or wish to use, you can search for it.

Further to the above post. v2.1.34 uses the file MSINET.OCX to read my web site. One user has reported that he got an error that msinet.ocx was not registered on his PC. I thought that this file was included with the VB controls under Vista and Windows 7, but that may not be the case.

If you get this error, copy msinet.ocx into Windows\System32 on 32 bit systems or Windows\Syswow64 on 64 bit systems and open a CLI window and type Regsvr32.exe msinet.ocx at the command prompt and it should register OK.

2. I don't know if anyone else has had a problem running RW_Tools or Route_Riter today, but on my own PC, any time I go to open a file in either program, I am getting an error message regarding a memory error. It appears that MS has changed the file COMDLG32.OCX in a recent security upgrade and it no longer works in my programs.

Placing an old version of the file in the RW_Tools or Route_Riter folders has fixed the problem. I would like to know if this problem is only happening to me or if others have the same problem.

Are these just Vista/Windows 7 issues Mike? I'm all up to date and am not having any problems with either RW_Tools or Route-Riter on XP Home.

Hi Bob & Alex,

Thanks for the responses.

Probably just on Windows 7 and could be only 64 bit, my XP is OK, which is why I was asking as I want to know where the problem lies and how bad.

Maybe just my PC, you never know.

I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I can't seem to get msinet.ocx to be recognised. If I put it in the sysWOW folder it tells me it doesn't exist and if i put it in the system32 folder it fails over compatibility issues.

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium and get the same, Mike.

Thanks to all for responses, I am going to remove the v2.1.34 and upload a new version without the msinet.ocx control as it is proving to be too much of a hassle here.

Mike,

For Windows 7, I have got msinet.ocx to register in v2.1.34, as follows:

Accessories>
right click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator>
enter regsvr32.exe msinet.ocx

Some folk on the internet advocate switching off UAC, but I didn't find that necessary.

Hi John,

Thanks, yes that is how I got it set up here, but as so many people appear to have problems even locating a Command Prompt I have decided to drop this function for the time being and v2.1.35 has reverted to not using that file.
