The Ashburton Branch

Post by Will »

I dont suppose anybody has any material about the Ashburton Branch do they ?
I've done a bit of research & I've got some stuff, Enough to make a start on the route, But i dont have anything like gradient profiles or even a map of the line & length etc. I might create it but turn it into a preservation line, Or i might just build & leave it as it is, Im not too sure, But i just wanted to see if anybody has got any material i could use in for the route.

I've a book called 'The Ashburton Branch (and The Totnes Quay Line)' by Anthony R Kingdom published in 1977 by the Oxford Publishing Company.
PM me. I might be able to help.

Jetgriff (South Devon Banks), was initially going to do the Ashburton Branch, but having built the Totnes mainline station he decided to go East and West on the mainline to where he has left it today, (Tiverton and Plymouth). Quite possibly he would be willing to not only share info on the branch but allow you to continue from the spur where he left it. Worth getting in contact I would think, particularly if you want to take it all the way to Ashburton as that would be in the era that South Devon Banks has been built.

Thanks Jeoff, I beleived Jetgriff had done the Ashburton Branch, Or was either intening to, It now seems like the latter.
I'll perhaps drop him a PM too at somepoint, See what he can do. Im going to do it in the GWR Steam Era as it was, Although im not the biggest GWR fan in the world (Although i do love the stock), I do like the branch & It was a good little line, I had the rendition of it in MSTS a few years ago, Might have to reinstall MSTS & Downlaod the route. It would be a start!

greetings, back from the dead i am, anyways you can carry on from Totnes on my route if you want, the grades are usually self explaining with the DEM files loaded as you just lay the track to the terrain as in real life, just keeping an eye on Google Earth to spot cuttings etc.

I was talking to Joe Whitacre about redoing the Carlisle and Settle Route, but also want to go on to Taunton and finish the Tiverton Branch, but was spending a lot of time trying to get the scenario's working and the signalling better.

But you all should know how I go off in tangents to sometimes to crazy places (tempting to do Stoke Bank so we can try 126mph with the A4).

In the meantime am back at it so will see what happens
