Input mappers changed
Hi all
More update woes. If you want to use injector and other expert conrol functions on your entire fleet of steam loco's, both default and third party, you can't anymore. If you have a back up of your "default expert bin" file in assets\kuju\railsimulatorCore\inputmappers, then swap it back. If not your stuck because verify cache will only give you the new ,expert.intermediate, bin files. Must be tied to career mode. I have emailed support but havent a reply yet,you would think they would stay up nights for us southern hemisphere type. Anyhow hope that helps those with a backup copy

Re: Input mappers changed
Has anyone managed to get the controls working again using a back up of the 'Default_Expert.bin' file? I tried and the same keys don't work. Looking at the present file and the earlier one as .xml they appear to be the same so the problem might lie in the RW code itself.

Hi Andy
You must remove or rename the old bin file and make sure you replace it with one from before the last update. That done all my controls now work again, that all i have done

Re: Input mappers changed
Phill,
That's what I did. I've just tried again, rebooting this time after the copying process, and clearing the blueprints cache and I get no change. I can even remove the 'default_expert.bin' file from the inputmappers folder and still nothing is different! The same keys work / don't work as with the latest version of the file in the folder. I must be missing something obvious, hopefully RSC will be able to fix it soon.

Re: Input mappers changed
Phill,
I think you were right with 'default_expert.bin'. No sign of a plain 'expert.bin' in the current version or in my backup. Nearest is 'DieselExpert.bin' but that isn't the one.

Re: Input mappers changed
Phill,
Thanks for your help but I've solved it. Do you by any chance have the IHH Breakdown crane installed? I do and I sorted the problem by removing all but the expert version of the 'Crane_ xxx .bin' files from the input mapper folder. The expert steam keys then work as they should using the latest version of the 'Default_expert.bin' file.
I've emailed IHH to let them know there could be a problem.

Re: Input mappers changed
I appear to have been lucky, because for some unknown reason, when updates come out, my modified files don't change for instance the 4f whistle which i changed when the loco came, out has not been replaced in any of these patches for some reason. Same goes for everything else like free roam activities etc, it's quite annoying.

Re: Input mappers changed
Hi Guys
Just to confirm there are three input mappers included with the crane package named CRANE_Expert etc.
They do reside in Kuju\Railsimulator Core........ the only place they are recognized by the game
They are uniquley named and should not therefore be active unless a particular vehicle calls them.
This is a proven tecnique as used by Dave Brindleys 58 and 86 .
I am working with the guys at RS.Com to put finger on the problem.

Re: Input mappers changed
Hi Paul, unless it has changed recently rs/works was only happy - on my machine at least - with only one type of input mapper loaded during each session if the mappers assigned different functions to the same keys. When I used the 86 then a steam loco I couldn't get the steam loco to talk to my keyboard - I remapped the 86 to use the same functions as the default but put the vigilance on numberpad `enter` & it then worked ok so there seems to be overlap between the mappers.
edit I wonder if RW creates a global mapper during each session which would explain why I had to restart the programme to cure the conflicts between the mappers

Re: Input mappers changed
Mark,
This seems slightly different to what you experienced with the Class 86 and the steam locos in that when I had the problem I hadn't used the crane at all that session nor was it included in any of the scenarios that I tried the steam locos in.

Re: Input mappers changed
Hi Andy, It wouldn't have mattered if it was a Diesel or another electric within the same scenario - if there is another drivable player vehicle it will have it's own or default mapper loaded - if there is another one active at the same time with different mappings for the keys it seems to get confused!
Re: Input mappers changed
To help the investigation along I've just loaded the Re-railing scenario supplied with the crane, its special keymapping worked normally. Without shutting down RW I then loaded the default Templecombe free roam scenario and selected the Black 5, all the expert mode controls worked normally.
I then put the Black 5 in a crane free roam scenario and despite both being drivable locos with different keymapppings I could swap to and fro and each responded correctly to the keyboard.
This seems to show that you can have two sets of expert keymappings which use the same keys for different functions active in the same scenario without them interfering with each other. In this case the problem seems to be caused by having the 'crane stop go' and 'crane intermediate' mappings in the keymapping folder. I'll leave the experts to work out why that should be an issue.

Re: Input mappers changed
Hi Andy --All
Sorry it took so long to get back but i needed the sleep. It was the default expert bin as i said. There apears to be 6 or 7 changes in the input mappers all at the same time the changes to bath and the scenarios were added. This was 24hrs b4 i installed Slys crane, I had wondered about that myself, all i did when i lost control of the steam locos was to put rename the orig bin and copy paste and old one in.Instant fix.as isaid this happened with the update so hopefully rs com will answer the email. Strange more people havenot mentioned this. I have not tried career scenarios since doing this.Something just to mind,I cant say for sure that i noticed this b4 the crane install or not

Re: Input mappers changed
Any formal word on a fix, here, e.g. feedback from RSC?
Unfortunately, due to some overzealous disk-space rationalisation, I recently trashed my pre-patch backup and the only other copy I've kept is from nearly a year ago...
Would be good to understand what the root cause is.
