Disappearing Wheelset

Post by bpratt »

Help. I just made a narrow gauge car that looks great in 3DC and in Shape Viewer, but when run in MSTS one wheelset is missing. All four wheelsets are present and rotate properly in Shape Viewer animation mode, but when loaded in the Sim there are only three. I have replaced the wheelset, replaced the truck, and even replaced both trucks, but it is still the same. :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I love the car but have run out of ideas for how to fix it. Using 3DC Pro 7.1.2

Thanks for any help, Bill

First thoughts are that you might not have the wheelset correctly positioned and/or named in the model hierarchy.

Doug,
Those are also my first thoughts. I have checked and rechecked them, although this has failed before :), and still have the problem.

I can't see how I can have a positioning or hierarchy error that would let it look and animate good in Shape Viewer but not even appear in the Sim. It also seems strange that I replaced the wheelset, then the bogie, then both bogies, but still had the same indications.

I am not going to loose any more sleep over it though, and plan to rebuild it reusing some of the most unique parts.

Thanks, Bill

Hi

I'm no expert........ which is probably why I've had the same sort of problem from time to time :D

For me, running Decapod's 'normalise groups' plug-in seemed to deal with the problem.

Check the wheel size parameter in the WAG/ENG - this is the cause of 90% of these problems.

Paul - afraid I don't know enough about the WAG/ENG files to read them, but this does make sense because for some reason I failed to enter the wheel diameter In "Train Sim Wizard", and left it at default.

Frank and John _ I failed to mention it but I did try normalizing but it didn't work. Thanks for your input anyway.

Thanks guys, Bill

Bill,

Use wordpad to edit the wag file and look for

WheelRadius ( xxxxx )

put in the correct wheel radius e.g. 20in or 0.5m in place of the xxxxx
