Layers?
Hi, is there a way I can get a model to temporarily disappear so I would be able to work off of a drawing blueprint?

Re: Layers?
7.1.2 - Right click on an object (or select a group or objects and right click)
From pop up menu - Either select "Visible" (to make the selection invisible) or "Show Only" to make everything else vanish.
Brown cube button on top menu bar makes everything visible again.

Something else to consider if you are using a drawing as a backdrop to guide your model building, is to temporarily paint the object with 50% translucency. That way you can see the picture through the object as you manipulate it.
