St Pancras

Post by ross20 »

Hey guys, does anybody know why Luton display East Midlands Trains services to London as 'St Pancras' and First Capital Connect services as 'International'?

It's been bugging me since I went there Saturday, doesn't confuse me but maybe some other people?

Many thanks.

I think they go to different parts of the station. My London knowledge is fuzzy, but I think the FCC trains go to a through platform (eg. for the Brighton-Bedford route), while the EMT service probably goes to the main terminus. It could well be that the through platforms are officially part of "St. Pancras International", though I have no idea why since it doesn't have privileged access to the Eurostar platforms.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

I think it could be because for the East Midlands / Midland Mainline, it was just St Pancras before and they stopped there before when it was just St pancras. It could be where they haven't updated the route information for the stations on the MML (and the trains)?, where as Southeastern / Eurostar / First Capital Connect didn't used to stop at the old St Pancras and only started stopping there after its name had changed to international, so that's why the information / destinations, etc on these three would say International? (if that makes any sence?)
Something goes here??

East Midlands go to the St Pancras domestic station and capital connect go to the same platforms as east midlands do capital connect started using the station after international trains started they used to use the kings cross themslink station before thats why it says international east midlands trains was using it before eurostar started and when it was just st pancrass I think thats why luton says that

The FCC platforms are in a "box" under the whole station, whereas the EMT platforms are in the extension off the end of the main trainshed on the western side. It does seem a bit odd as on the (very) few occasions I used EMT from Sheffield the train manager often said "...service to London St Pancras International." Suppose at the end of the day it's all the same station.
