CIE Cravens Stock

Post by Irishrailguy »

Hi all,

This is my first modelling attempt underway, I don't think it got much appeal in my first thread so I decided to make a new thread for it individually. This (I hope) will become available to download sometime next month, or even earlier. I just need to solve some problems and tackle some of the grey bits in the development process as it is my first time.

Here are some development photos, I use sketchup and there is a fair bit of detailing to do...

Before bogies,

Bogies,

With bogies,

They might look out of proportion, but I will scale the model when it's finished to the exact dimensions.

Looking very good, hmmm, maybe I should try sketchup again, cause if detail as good as that is possible, it'll beat 3DS max

For anyone using skechup, could they lend me a hand? As you can see in my pictures, I have no windows. This is because when I try to 'seperate' the face in the shape of the window to apply trainglass.fx or another glass shader, it just creates a new face. Using intersect worked with the door windows, as you can see, but it only creates the outline when I use it,

Long story short, how do I create windows in sketchup?

Just a quick update this evening, I sorted the scale issue so it looks right, I also improvised for the windows, the original face will have a texture with a fully transparent alpha channel where the windows are, then the squares are what I apply the glass shader to, this is all covered by the frames which are nearly half done...

More to come.

Sorry guys, off on holidays for the next 2 weeks, but I do have a good update for you. I decided that the cravens coaches should be hauled by something...

http://s994.photobucket.com/albums/af65 ... nt=5-1.jpg

Can you guess what it is yet? (I hope you can, otherwise it's probably pretty bad)
I'm afraid that I've made little progress with the coach, the past 2 days have been spent on the 'loco'.
Feel free to leave any comment that could help with the model's accuracy or development, I'll read them when I get back.

Happy simming.

Thanks, yes thats certainly a 121 class and thanks to the photomatch feature I only need 1 photo for most of the model, this, I hope will be a freeware cie pack for the community to enjoy. But for those who know I promised a 071 class, I will not dissapoint, I plan to make it my next project, I'm just getting the hang of things.

I'm getting straight back into it now, I've just literally arrived back from the airport and I'm dying to get working again.

Thanks.

Sorry I haven't updated yet, I've indulged on endless hours of my newly recovered RW routes. As for the models I am planning to give them their first test run once I get suitable plans for both to get the correct dimensions, which I'm having great difficulty doing as IR don't have a general enquiries email. If anyone can help it would speed up the project greatly.
When (if) I get the models into RW I'll give an image update.
