Hmmm, curiouser & curiouser...

I've reinstated all AP's sounds (I too use the "Installed into another folder then copied over when necessary..." method); which overwrite sounds for classes 166, 47, 3x 43, 37 & 40. But when I run the AP8 scenario "Wilton to Felixstowe" none of the 43's that pass make a sound - they're dead quiet...

Like I said, hardly extensive testing, but it was the 1st one I tried after adding the 'fading sound' patch & now I've tried it 3 times (with the newer version as well) and it always does the same. The 47 sounds 'different' too but I can't quite put my finger on that one...

Any ideas of what's happening?

EDIT: It's probably important that I mention that my 47 and 3x 43's are RS sound packs installed into RW by changing the 'install to...' target...

Loving it :D
I've just been testing a scenario, where the player train is looped at Darlington to allow a HST to overtake. Went to the tail end of the train and waited for the HST and could hear the Marston rise in pitch as she pulled away from the platform.

Bought the Class 37 sound set. Sounds great. Question. Am I wrong in thinking the new fading effect hasn't been applied to the RSC Class 37 DLC set? (yes I installed the DLC 37 patch) I hear the replaced audio fine, but the fade effect is definitely not there. I distinctively notice the fade effect on the default 37 sets.

Overall though your new sounds + the fade on the default sounds incredible.

Thanks
Bill

EDIT: Checking out the proxyxml's I found the new fades were not in the RSC 37 patch. Simple copy and paste of 3 files fixed that up. Now my entire class 37 fleet is hooked up with that new fade sound. It's incredible! Thanks. I purchased 5 more audio packs also.

37 sounded fantastic, the sample 47 I tried didn't appear to sound any different (although I may have selected one of the Oovee repaints that came with the MJA wagons, perhaps that is the issue?), and several 43s I tried seemed to fade very quickly indeed.

I wonder if the new fade effects will get applied to the default stock by RS. Am I right in thinking that the audio tracks don;t have to be modified just the settings for how the audio is rendered in game. If so then it makes such a big improvement that maybe RS will put the time in to update the files necessary.

msdejesus wrote:Regarding Steam overwriting our modded files (and awesome AP sound packs), what I did was bother to install all of them onto a temporary location, (say "C:\RWTemp\"), and then prepare a batch file which copies everything from there to ...\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks.

This way I don't have to go through the process of installing hundreds of small files/addons one by one.
smarty2 wrote:Cant you just copy the audio folder to your desktop too?
The advantage of the first method is the following: If the same folder contains modified files and unmodified ones, and if then RSC update some of the unmodified files, the first method will precisely resort the modified ones and leave those which have been updated by the latest patch intact, while the second method will revert the update to files which are not directly concerned by the modification.

Of course, this is not too likely, but then again, especially with fixes of original content, you never know what RSC are fixing in which patch. There are often minor content tweaks that don't make it into the official list, because they may not look good, or they don't want the list to be long or whatever.

Must have been because I was listening through my headphones with the volume up!

Hi Richard

I think the problem maybe that you don't have the most up to date versions of these packs installed? Feel free to e-mail me and I'll sort out getting those to you somehow.

Ah yes, the Oovee reskins don't link to the default sound location unfortunately. Remember that quieter locos will not be heard from as far away.

Thanks for pointing that out, I've now included the RSC 37 patch in the actual download instead of a separate one on the site as I'm sure everyone that's wanted it has got it now.

Hi Rich, so how can we apply the new effects to the RSC class 37 pack?

Hi Mark. Yes. Just confirmed. Redownloaded the Class 37 pack (Class 37 Sound Pack RW) and the RSC 37 pack modifications are now bundled in it along with the default Class 37 set.

Hi, can I infer from what's been said above that reinstalling the updated RW Fading Sounds patch from the AP website will sort this out?

Regards

Yes, re-download the Class 37 sound pack (no need to download the RSC patch anymore). Then reinstall it. Now your DLC RSC 37 set will have the new fade effect applied. I have checked the files, all are in place. One install now handles both the KUJU set and RSC set.
