Regarding Steam overwriting our modded files (and awesome AP sound packs), what I did was bother to install all of them onto a temporary location, (say "C:\RWTemp\"), and then prepare a batch file which copies everything from there to ...\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks.

This way I don't have to go through the process of installing hundreds of small files/addons one by one.

I hope that is useful to someone ;)

That's exactly what I do too Manuel, thanks for sharing.

Just in reply to Neptune50006, the patch only applies to Armstrong Powerhouse sound packs.

Sure, that's another way of doing it.

Yes, indeed, but I wasn't talking about sounds only, but dave's awesome modded HST/class 66/class 166 physics, or the container wagons packs reskins..., etc.

Very good idea. I have been thinking of buying the sound packs for a while but been put off by the whole Steam overwrite thing.

Real shame that this can't be prevented in some way. I am sure we would appreciate it and Armstron PowerHouse sales would probably increase.

To be fair, AP make their installations very easy, each pack does not take more than a few seconds to install. Definitely a great compromise, spending a couple of minutes (if you have more than a couple of packs) every month to install, considering the sheer quality these packs add.

Unfortunately the steam overwrite problem doesn't show any signs of being fixable. RS.com have made it quite clear that there is no room for working around this so unfortunately that's the way things are going to stay :(. If you check out Manuel's post at the top of the page though, he's got a good system going for how to reinstall all his packs at once. You needn't even create a batch file either, just manually copy a single folder over.

Will this work with assets other than trains? If so, it really opens up a can of worms with how embracing routes could be to the ear. Imagine if the airliner taking off in GARL was redone with this? As it is now it sounds like the airliner is on the next platform over from you. :)

Yeah, can work with any sound in the simulator as far as I know :).

Now, I may be 'jumping the gun' here as my tests ar FAR from extensive,
but I just wanted to ask if anyone else is having problems with the locos losing their sound completely in the 'N to Y Modern' route once this patch is applied..? :-?

Early indications for me are this works better with some locos than others.

Really wish I could work out how to add sound to the rear-end loco, incidentally. Was really confusing from the stuff that was uploaded.

Hmm, what do you mean in terms of working better with some locos than others?

And Richard, I apologise for this, I didn't envisage the fact that the patch would adversely affect those who haven't purchased sound packs for the default. If you verify your steam installation (or restore a backup) and then download the patch again which has been updated, things should then be fine after following the instructions included in the .zip file.

Unfortunately i do not have time to check other locos but Grand Central works fine, it sounds brilliant, much better.
I will try a few more tomorrow.
