Tornado V2
by Steve Boothroyd
Hi everyone
I am new to the forum although I have been on it numerous times just browsing. I've also learnt one or two things about altering files in locos etc. I downloaded the Tornado V2 when it first came out and I had no trouble in installing it, I even managed to change the cab to show the left hand cab showing MPH and it worked first time. I was very pleased with it, it certainly sounded just like the real thing.
Unfortunately just recently I had to reinstall trainsim, I thought I had saved Tornado into a folder on the desktop alone with quite a few others for just this reason. However, it appears that I didn't and now I am having trouble installing it again. The cab is ok , it is the sound that is now working. I get two messages coming up saying:
Common.Sound\A1\A1engpass.sms
Common.Sound\A1\A1cab.sms
I have checked in the Common Sound folder and both files are there in Trainset Common Sound. I've also checked in the Common Cab and there is also a file for A1.
I would very much appreciate a bit of help with solving the problem. I'm sure it can't be much.
Thanks in advance

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the forums - it's always good to see new members.
It may be a silly question, but your sound files are in folder A1 within common.sound aren't they?
Nothing to do with this thread, but there is a village called Spion Kop just down the road from where I live! Named after a battle in the Boer War, I believe.
Cheers,
Ged

Thanks Michael,
You never know what you're going to learn on this forum! The place I mentioned (village is too 'strong' a word for it!) is just outside Mansfield on the A60.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged and Michael
Thanks for your replies. I chose the name Spion Kop because is the name of a Gresley A3, but it's nice to know where the name came from.
Yes Ged, the A1 sound folder is in the common sound folder. The first three files in the folder are:
A1cab.sms
A1eng.sms
A1engpas.sms
So I can't see why trainsim can't find these files.

Re: Tornado V2
Hi Steve,
I'm sorry, but I can't suggest anything further to help. As long as you've made no modifications to the .eng file everything should work, especially as the complete sound folder is supplied with the loco.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Tornado V2
Hi Steve,
Welcome from me as well.
Compare the name of the common.sound folder in your Trainset, with the name of the common.sound line in the error message. Or, if you are happy opening the .eng files compare it with the Sound ( "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" ) lines in the loco Folder.
You quote it as Common.Sound (with capitals). The common.sound folder in my Trainset is spelt with lower case, and I have not known it spelt with capitals.
Silly as it sounds this makes the Folder name different.
Come back
Good luck
Doug

Re: Tornado V2
To be accurate, Spion Kop was named after a racehorse which won the 1920 Derby.

Hi Doug,
Thanks Ian for yet more info!
Cheers,
Ged
That was a good point you raised - so I renamed the folder with initial capitals. On my Windows 7 installation, it makes no difference, ie it still works without problem. I know on some earlier versions of Windows, case was important - maybe Steve could confirm which version he is using.douglee wrote:You quote it as Common.Sound (with capitals)

Hi Doug, Ian, Ged
First of all thanks for your replies and you'll be please to know that I have just fixed the problem
Doug, my common sounds in trainset is in lower case.
Ian, I thought that Spion Kop would have been named after a race horse.
The problem was in the eng file nearly half way down, it should have been A1eng.sms instead of A1engpass.sms
I certainly didn't have that problem when I first installed it a few weeks ago.
Anyway it works a treat now. Thank guys for all your help.

Hi Steve,
That's weird!! Mine asks for A1engpass.sms and works fine. That file is present in A1 sound folder.
Incidently, in your post of 6 May 2010 :
Cheers,
Ged
