MSTS S&D ROUTE

Have heard a rumour that one of the big developers is doing a route&stock cd for the somerset and dorset for msts?
If so its about time!

Hardly a rumour, as the S&D route for MSTS was announced by 3D Train Stuff some time ago . The latest info on their website:

S&D UK Route Project - Work is proceeding on schedule, and we are targeting a mid 2010 release.

If previous releases by them are anything to go by, this should be an absolute corker!

It's all a matter of perception I suppose but I think Cambrian Lines and Swanage are well worth the money - you get tremendous scenery and loads of rolling stock.

Agreed ... I think the Swanage is as good as the SVR from BATs
I bought both of those , in boxes with manuals, for around £14.99 including VAT.
I haven't bought any of the CDs posted from the States... because they work out at around £30.
There was a freeware route being done, unfortunately the author switched sims before release.

I used Paul Spicers' Green Park and Green Park Bridge (with his permission) in BTB which unfortunately for me gave me the idea of the S&D , without noticing a commercial version in the pipeline
As i don't feel like dumping 4 months of planning and research, i'm continuing with the route as freeware but if 3dts keep to the schedule, it will be well after their release.

Well you're missing out IMO

Their's is just about the best commercial stuff for MSTS with MT a close second.

As far as price is concerned Cambrian 2 works out at about £32 (the night before the election ) which considering the level of detail, amount of stock and number of activities AND a very long route isn't bad? Great Eastern which is perhaps shorter in mileage but similar in stock and acts is currently about £20 but will Great Eastern 2 sell for the same? Compared to the cost of all the parts that you have to buy to make a route from EB I'd say they were VERY good value. Their Cascade Crossing route was one of the best US routes ever IMHO and the stock was fabulous.

Many have been put off by buying from the States but I've always got their discs within 10 days (or sooner) and they've always been well packed and arrived undamaged.

Personally I've high hopes for their S&D because it couldn't be in safer hands as far as quality is concerned.

I'll second what Geoff says.
3DTS work, in my opinion, is second to none. Cambrian 2 must be 3(?) years old now and I rarely use any other route because it offers so much and is so vast in route miles. As for scenic quality, well, it's worth every penny of what you pay. I am also hopeful that the S&D route will be in the same league and I suspect it will be a few more months before it is ready but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

The problem these days is not all of us can now afford the £32.00 pounds especialy if you are on a low income, you have to budget for petrol/diesel which goes up daily the cost of food again the prices seem to go up regulary, also Council Tax mines gone up 3% this year, heating and lighting.

And again if you have a company pension which is index linked like mine,it didn't go up this year even though inflation is around 3%, when it was set last September inflation was below 0%.Also if you haven't a credit card then it's difficult to buy items from 3D train stuff.

So I'm hopeing Clive carries on with his version which I'm sure will be popular if his BTB route is any thing to go by.

If I want get the S&D if Clive decides not to carry I might splash out £13.00 for a brand new Railworks Simulation seeing as Amazon are chargeing that price.

Yes, I agree with Geoff about the cost of 3DTS and balanced against the cost of other very good quality routes and Community routes and stock, they are priced 'exotically'. However, I did get Cambrian 2 because there is much stock and, crucially, plenty of activities, but I have held out on the add on pack. The Railworks version of the S&D includes only half of the actual route, and I will be surprised if the 3DTS S&D covers the scope of my own implementation. My version is bolted on to Dave Corfield's Dorset Coast Route and is a part of 'Steam Era Dorset', so the London and Exeter trains arriving at Templecombe really can come from London or Exeter on the route!

I know exactly what you're talking about Michael. The massaging of inflation figures by governments of all shades is an insult to our intelligence. They pop things in and out of the calculation which are obvious factors to you and I and yet declare that it's "down to X%" as if we didn't have to pay the stuff they've removed My wife and I both have index linked pensions and like yours (?) they are fixed on figures for a specific month ....but different months!! This means each year we get vastly different increases. Even this year I, like you got nothing and she got 2.4% After today's results and the panics over the Greece situation I'm pretty pessimistic about what will happen to the exchange rate too With age comes patience though (allegedly? ) so I tend to buy from the US when the exchange rate is up. Fingers crossed that may happen again soon

Also if you haven't a credit card then it's difficult to buy items from 3D train stuff.

They do have other ways of paying and some of the latest Bank Cash Cards are becoming "Visa" cards too meaning they can be used online?

Beware of gifts though Michael. A couple of loco packs from STEAM and you'll have paid the same as for the 3DTS route which will, if previous releases are anything to go by, come with loads of stock. Cambrian2 has 56 Activities. BTW RS/RW only did half the route on the S&D.

When your on state benefits £32 is a heck of alot of money! i bought quite a few of the BATS stuff in the past, all generally at way below the original asking price, i buy a few cd's off UKTS, at about £4.50 a disk, i feel they are better value for money!
