L&Y Radial Tanks volunteer wanted

Post by peterholton »

Hi, All,

Is there any person or persons willing to take on the task of helping me finish my free Lancashire and Yorkshire Class 5 2-4-2 radial tanks please?

I have the short, small boilered version in 3 liveries (L&Y, LMS, BR) complete to LOD level1, complete with working cabview and controls, and aliased to default RS sounds and smoke.

Ideally I'd like someone with the patience and interest to set up the "physics", particle effects and sounds to better effect to enable it to be released for free download. I have no interest in payware, by the way: all free.

I will provide all files I have apart from the source 3D models; all .igs, animation and relevant files so far. I will also provide a spreadsheet with all datum dimensions listed.

In return, credit will be duly given and my gratitude: because making the model is the easy part. If it's successful, I can complete the LOD's and release.

The models as they stand are driveable and work, so there's a base to start.

Please reply in this thread.

Cheers,

Peter

Ahh. The building is easy. It's the faffing about with RS/RW and all the attendant frustrations that do me in.

Thanks, Edward. I'll reply gererally in this topic to see if I'm on the right lines.

What I think I'll do is package the three locos as they are, with the source files, in RS (RW isn't very stable here) and make them available to any volunteers to modify. Serious suggestions/requests only please.

The physics at present uses the default example loco physics files as supplied by Kuju, with boiler pressure, weights, cylinder sizes, friction etc. entered in the blueprint. I'm assuming the various lookup tables would need modifying? I don't know or care, but I'd like it right if possible.

Sounds I'm agnostic about. At present I've aliased to one of the default loco sounds: the 7F I think, as the driving wheel radius is the same, so saved a lot of faffing about. It doesn't sound too bad.
However, that's a Walschearts valve gear loco, whereas the L&Y radial is smaller with Joy gear. Don't know what difference that would make to the sound in-game. I'm open to suggestions, preferably backed up with appropriate files!

Particle effects: it would be nice if I could release it as a full RW compatible package; injectors, gland leakage, draincocks, safety valves etc. There's a thread going currently at
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=102198
which may be relevant.

I'll have a package ready later on this week.

I'm open to all feedback, suggestions, comments or criticism.

Cheers,

Peter

I may make you some sounds when i come to have the time but i wont be on time and it will take me sometime since steam engines are harder to do.

But im not saying 100% ill do some im sliping away from railworks again at the moment so ill think about it and see what happens over time.

That looks good!! The fact it's planned freeware with a customised cab makes it all the more better.
