Problems starting Bumper Pack Special Offer

Post by MichaelBeere »

Having purchased this special offer and loaded Steam. I now find that I cannot get the programme to start.

When I press start the message comes up "RailWorksProc2.exe has stopped working"
If I go the the Settings Tab with just the basic setting and "Test Display settings" a box comes up saying "Settings are not useable".

Settings being attempted: screen 800 x 600, Anti Aliasing 0, Monitor arrangements 1x1, Small screen. All other settings unchecked.

I am using an Alienware M15x with 6GB RAM, 1GB video card and Windows 7 OS.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do next?

Have you set RailworksProc2.exe to run as an Adminstrator?
Alan

My railway photos are now on Google + - links to the albums are in this thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 9&t=149558

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Most likely the display size is wrong for the laptop screen.. According to the specs your screen will either be a "* 15.6-inch WideHD+ 1600 x 900 - WLED" or
" * 15.6-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 - WLED". as these are "Widescreen" 800x600 is most likely unsupported by the graphic card " * 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M1" or "* 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M1" or the drivers included do not have that resolution in it's .inf file.

Right click on your Desktop and choose "Screen Resolution" (near the bottom of the context menu, above the "Gadgets" option). Move the slider down to the lowest setting and see what is displayed on screen (I'm willing to bet the 800x600 won't show up on the list, but a widescreen version of that will).

Once you've found the lowest setting that your laptop screen will display, choose that setting within the Railworks options. :)

Andy,
As suggested the screen size was 1600 x 900. I tried putting this setting into Railworks but still ended up with "Setting are not usable".
I then reduced the setting to in minimum in that range - 1152 x 720 with the same result. I tried 1280 x 720, 1600 x 480 and 1920 x 480 al with the same result.
I found that the screen resolution could be adjusted to 800 x 600 so I tried that - same result. I increase the size to 1024 x 768 as some items were not shown on the screen, but again the same result.

I am concerned that perhaps the programme has not been ratified in some way as I have no "Package Info" as I do not have an "Author" or license number. The packages only show as "protected" or "unprotected".

However, now when I click on "start" the message comes uo "Please Test your display settings".

Any further thoughts?

Then do that, and set RW to run at the size of your desktop.

Dave,
Unfortunately the programme still does not run.
I have done the "properties", "local files", "verify integrity of game cache.." but still unable to get the programme to start.
I noticed that "Net" and "DirectX" were loaded again after the verification, when I initialised RailWorks.
When I press "start" a message to "please test your display settings" appears.

In the display settings there is a 'test settings' buttons. You probably already know that but it's a thought ( sort of in the same boat) :)

Michael,

Don't know if you've been following the thread containing this post: http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 5#p1275764 but I notice you're also on Windows 7. An uninstall & reinstall of the .NET Framework 3.5.1 seems to have solved the problem for that Win 7 user, could be worth a try.

Michael, i use RW on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, without any problems.

As Chris has said, you have to test the graphics settings, once you have set them.

cheers,

Also, update to the latest version of the Nvidia drivers (or whatever graphics card you have) - not the Dell supplied ones....
And then upgrade the PhysX engine to 909 (See http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.1112.html). I had issues with the 910 version of Physx (released about 2 weeks ago)

Thanks for all the advice.
Downloading the latest drive solved the problem.
Now running in 1600 x 900.
