Passenger view issues
Now I'm at a bit of a loss. Iv read the tutorial on steam4me which is great but I'm not understanding about the bit where you name the carriage with the paasview.s line. Can you get a passenger view for any train which has the textures even if an actual pass view hadent been made? In all the trainsets iv used with pass views the name of the carriage has always been paasview.s but there's always been an ace file to go with it so just adding the appropriate lines to the wag file will not work unless there is ace files. Is that correct?

Re: Passenger view issues
Hi
I tried to explain before ..... but here goes.
A shape file in MSTS is a 'S' file
A shape defination file in MSTS is a 'sd' file.
A texture file in MSTS is an 'ace' file.
A model must have a S file, a sd file, and at least one ace file( but it could have 20 ace files).
The passenger camera is number 5
The control and positioning of this camera is in the wag file.
(Using previously posted lines, and as described in the tutorial, in the wag file).
If the model has been built simply, it may not have an interior.... or certainly not in detail.
Then the modeller may build a seperate passenger view S file.... and point the camera to this instead.
Or the model may have a fully modelled interior, which you can view with the passenger camera.
Whatever S file you point the camera at, that shape must be in the SAME folder as the wag file.
With its sd file, and ALL the ace files the shape needs.
Hope this clears things up
Cheers
Jon

Re: Passenger view issues
Ok say if thers no s or sd file then it can't be used with a passenger view. Just to go back to the 376/375 , when I look in the trainset there is no files of these so I assume it can't be used unless a passview.s file and ace files are put in??

Hi
No in this case there is no SEPERATE passenger view shape.
So you would point the camera at the coach model shape.
(As per the tutorial)
Cheers

No you can't just rename it .... it has to match the name of the shape file already in that folder.
(Think of it as your telling the sim.... where to aim the camera... and at what )
Cheers

Re: Passenger view issues
That is correct you need the ACE files for the passview line in the WAG file because if you put in a passenger view with no ace's you will get errors saying "xxxxxxxx.ace can not be found" or something along that line.mikespearce wrote:Now I'm at a bit of a loss. im guessing the unit your trying to put the passenger view into dont have one allready? in that case what you need to do is go open up the unit that your trying to copy the passenger view from E.G if your going to use a passanger view from a deffault stock you would open that folder up then press Ctrl and f to open the search box then type "passview" it then should find the .S and .SD copy and paste that into the folder your trying to get the cabview to load up into once they are copied and pasted load up the train you just copied and pasted the passview .S and .SD into train sim when the errors show up after slelecting the consist and route check to see what the errors say E.G it should say "xxxxxxx.ACE can not be found" what you do to solve this problem is when the errors take you back to desktop take the error message one by one and copy and paste the correct .ACE file into the file you need them to be in once you copy and pasted the first .ACE press ok and then the next error message will appear.

1. The ACE files are not needed for the passview line in the ENG or WAG file. They are required by the shape file that you call from the PassengerCabinFile () line in the passenger view. The ACE files often have names unrelated to the shapefile name.
2. The interior view is not always called passview.s (eg Acela is "insideacelacar.s").
3. The pass view is NOT the cabview.
4. You do NOT need the .sd file for a passenger view shape file, in fact they mostly don't exist.
5. The easiest way to establish which files are required by a given shape is to view the shape in Shape Viewer, then click View | Textures for a list of textures (ACE files) associated with that particular shape.

I didn't think that passenger views were that hard!

thanks for the corrections with the above sorry i meant passenger view i forgot to re read before submitting the post.
i used this as an example because the majority of passenger views i have swapped uses "passview.s".mstsrocks wrote: 2. The interior view is not always called passview.s (eg Acela is "insideacelacar.s").
i also just copy the s files into the trainset folder because i don't have shape viewer which i should get than saves having the errors coming. and its a way I'm familiar with
Simon
P.S sorry if that post sounded like i was being rude I'm not intending of being rude
