Dave,

Those Thompson Coaches are 1st class, also Pearl Diver looks good at the head of the train, all I can say we are lucky to have models makers and route builders and activity writers who are still prepared to make stuff for MSTS and thank you all.

Hi Dave,
I would say definately the top photo, 'A' with the cream window surrounds. This will be a nice set of Thompson's and you have got the Carmine & Cream, just about the right shade. Can you include a Restaurant Car as well in the set? I don't think there was a Buffet Car, but I recall back in my train spotting day's having seen a Thompson First Class Restaurant Car.
Keep up the good work.

A bit late I know but did anyone look at this site

http://pdhdrawings.co.uk/shop/page/13?shop_param=

where drawings for railway stock can be obtained.

Mind you the ones I got for 1st Gen DMUs were not entirely accurate when pictures on the Railcar website were compared!

Hi Dave,

I think definately the top picture,

the lower one looks a little too over-animated

What about this....

Image

Here's how I make texturesfrom drawings.

First any guide lines and measurement lines are painted out on the drawing.
then each part is cropped and resized and pasted into a 512x512 or 1024x1024 blank texture.

Then each line on the drawing is selected and coloured.
I assume the sun to be top left and use a light colour for edges where the light would hit it and a dark colour where it would be in shadow.

I use green where the edge is level such as planks and blue where the part is raised.

Each colour is selected and the selection is saved.

The part is then painted in the final colour and each edge selection added and brightened or darkened.
The advantage of this is that the base colour is not important making it easy to do alternative liveries.

PSP is the only paint program I know which allows selections to be saved.
For other programs it should be possible to save the selected parts as seperate images and add them back as layers which can then be converted to masks.

That looks OK.

The bogies look OK but would be better if you added the brake shoes. lokks a bit bare around the wheels.
The buffers are a bit long. They were retractable with a short stubby body The heads could be pulled out and a collar put on the shaft when used with screw couplings.
The heads were round with a flat top.
The coach end drawings I sent shows them.

You could try my wagon paintkit to get a better idea of how to do the shading using selections

Hi

When the Scottish Central Plus is released you will get 2 sets of Thompson Coaches 1 Crimson Cream set and 1 Maroon set + a set of Greseley Maroon Coaches, also if you can get a cheap copy of the BATS LNER Pacifics addon there are some Thompson Coaches in it,although they are good they look dated compared to the new ones.

hope I haven't let slip any secrets

I have the LNER cd. The Thompsons are good, but like most Bats (all?) coach sets, they are incomplete. Hence the inquiry about these coaches.

Cheers

Hi Bruce,

We are almost on the activities and testing phase, so they should not be too long.

There is a whole host of other fresh new stock on the list as well.

There are some nice diagrams on the site mentioned above...

...of course I will never find everything I want or the time to make it, but that is another story

(Ha the big computer is dead again, motherboard corroded by the hot, humid, salty sea air here.)

They have a very good selection of LNER vehicles. Thanks Rufuskins
