Request for Ex LNER Thompson & Gresley Coaches

Post by steamnut44 »

This is a request for some coaches, that we would like to have available for the Scottish Central Plus, stock pack. As most of you will already know, we have a nice variety of new locos, most which have been specially built for this route and will not be available until the route is released.
What we are lacking for the stock pack, are some ex LNER Thompson coaches and some ex LNER Gresley coaches, that were common around the late fifties/early sixties period.

Half of the loco's included in this stock pack are BR (ex LNER) A1's, A2's, A3's, A4's, B1's, V2's as well as a few other smaller ex LNER locos.
Other locos for the pack will be a mixture of ex LMS, BR Standard, & ex WD locos. Altogether more than thirty odd new locos. We have a good selection of BR, ex LMS coaching stock we can use, but nothing much as far as ex LNER coaches.

If anyone feels that they could build a set of the above needed coaches, in maroon/carmine & cream livery, specially for this route, then please let us know.

Hi Geoff and the lads,

If you have any drawings, plans etc I'd be willing to lend a hand if you like? :)

The only thing I have to give me an idea are the two Hornby Thompson coaches that were released away back in the mists of time :)

Let me know.

Forget the underlength Hornby Gresley toys with the GW underframes or the Mk1s with Thompson sides.

I'll see what drawings I can find.

That's quick Dave :) and very nice as well.

I still can't find much to help with the Thompson coaches. Mind you there's always the option of buying some drawings from here.

Have you seen the price of those drawings, for a full set of Thompson coach drawings in 10mm scale would set you back about £60. Surely there must be some drawings around that could be found for free.

Hi there

I just looked for for some drawings of any of an ex-LNER J35/J36/J37/J83/J88 Scottish 0-6-0's and there is nothing except for the J38

I don't know if any have turned up in copies of Railway Modeller

so Dave

Keep up the good work, you are doing a grand job there.

Hi Mick,Geoff and Dave.

This is as good a place as any to find out, but if there has been any then they haven't been noted. :(

Still, there's a possibility that we can gain something from here. The only thing we'll need to figure out is what the length measurement points to, is it headstocks or buffers? :)

Here's something for them,

One to shunt them and one to pull 'em

Dave, the cream looks just about right for theGresley Coaches, which was more of a yellow shade of cream, like you seemed to have done them. I should leave them as they are. I like the coach destination boards, nice touch, but I should try and change them to read (Edinburgh - Dundee - Aberdeen) if you can, so that they can be used to run from Edinburgh.

The ex LMS/BR Blood & Custard coaches were a slightly lighter cream, but we are ok for these coaches. It's a set of Thompson Maroon Stock, with the round white toilet windows, that we could do with. If none can be sourced, we will have to make do with the ones I used in the previous screenshots, which are not that bad.
Have those coaches you have done, got passenger views?
