Custom Platforms?
Is there any way to taper a platform without 3D tools or should I get Blender and figure it out for myself?

Re: Custom Platforms?
Try adding a downward gradient to the platform ends. This effect works well.

Re: Custom Platforms?
I've done that where squared ends are OK. Problem is the location of the track.

Is there any way that I can taper UK 5m L Platform from 5 metres to 2 metres?
OK. So I've seen the Gizmo. But what is the significance of the yellow globes, blue and red arrows associated with platforms and what exactly can you accomplish with them?

Re: Custom Platforms?
Altering the surrounding ground around the slope just a tad can give the impression of a tapered platform end.

Re: Custom Platforms?
What if there is track in the way?

Click the image to zoom in
The platform is outlined in red. There are rails each side. Do platforms all have to be rectangular?

Re: Custom Platforms?
Unfortunately, my RW computer is down at the moment, but I am sure there are other items that could be used, as this type of station end is quite common? I sem to remember there is a "narrowish" block, often used in station fills that you could try.

Re: Custom Platforms?
Hi, You can use two lengths of 5m platform laid over so one side is straight and the other platform is curved. However you can only get down to about 6m at the end then - the taper in the defaults is only available in the newer Platform 2 style (grey block walls with yellow pimpled edge slabs) which is for the 5m island sections. Other than that you will need to make a custom asset using Blender.

Re: Custom Platforms?
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for that. It's pretty much what I expected.
I still haven't managed to get Blender working as I can't seem to get the right combination of Blender and Python versions together which will output RW compatible files.
I may have to accept that my route will not be prototypical in respect of platforms.
Cheers,
AndyR

Re: Custom Platforms?
You should be able to - I have Blender 2.49b with Python 2.6.4. Which versions have you installed?OrpheusRocker wrote:I still haven't managed to get Blender working as I can't seem to get the right combination of Blender and Python versions together which will output RW compatible files.

Re: Custom Platforms?
I have installation files for Blender 2.49b
I have installation files for Python 2.5.5 and 3.11
Should I track down Python 2.6.4?
Assuming I can get the above, I don't usually install stuff like this to my C: drive, are there any pointers for which order to install and are there any pitfalls with installation?
Thanks
AndyR

Re: Custom Platforms?
Get Python 2.6.4 from here http://www.python.org/download/ . Blender 2.49b looks for Python 2.6.2 or above, but doesn't work with version 3.OrpheusRocker wrote:I have installation files for Blender 2.49b

I don't think it matters which order you install in - try uninstalling Python 3.11 and then install 2.6.4. When you run Blender it should find and verify the Python version.

Re: Custom Platforms?
Right now I have neither installed but thanks for the pointer. I have the installation files per your recommendation.
I've been route building all day and I'm getting a bit punchy so I may not try this until tomorrow.
Plus I've discovered an alien track rule has sneaked into my route and I need to find it zap it.
If I get Blender installed and running I'll post here again.

Blender 2.49 and Python 2.5.4 should work well. Although not the latest versions they are stable.OrpheusRocker wrote:I still haven't managed to get Blender working as I can't seem to get the right combination of Blender and Python versions together which will output RW compatible files.
