RW HST horn

Post by larch »

As a derivative from another post I made today, in an ideal world I'd like to replace the rather unrealistic default HST horn in RW (same in RS) with something that sounds right. The default horn, well, it just doesn't really, does it?!

I know that Armstrong has produced an RS alternative (I bought it - twice!), but does it work in RW? Or can it be made to work? The Armstrong site content suggests it can't? My technical knowledge just aint enough.

If anyone knows how this can be done I'd love to hear from them. Or how to copy over the rather better horns from the 37, 47 or Pendolino.

How did the default HST horn ever get released?! :D

The armstrong sound pack works no problem, but, it has the same problem as all the others, steam will overwrite it every time it updates, so either select for it not to update, or go offline in steam.

Worked a treat! Thanks. MUCH better.

How do you select 'don't update' though?

I tested it using the 'Cornish Pasty' scenario - one I really like; loads of activity. I travel Exeter to Paddington and back at least once a week and love to compare real life with RW. This one feels the mkost life-like scenario of the lot. Well done the author! One day I'll have time to work out how to write my own.

Can't wait for Bristol to Exeter. This year I hope!

One thing I have often wondered is whether real HST drivers have to notch between 2 and 3 to maintain 125 on the level - like I do in RW - or whether they have some kind of cruise control. I kind of suspect the former, not least as a stay awake device. Does anyone know?

I think only the 91's have the speed control, HST's are manual all the way?
I may be wrong though.

To stop the game updating, go to the GAME tab in Steam. Right click on Rail Works and choose properties. Then select the UPDATE tab from the box, choose your chosen option, and click OK.
