Railworks and native resolutions (directed at the RW crew)

Post by booblessed »

Hi,

I currently have a rather frustrating problem regarding Railworks.

I currently have an ASUS gaming laptop. Whilst the specs are excellent for running RW with the highest settings, the monitor has a native (and maximum) resolution of 1366x768. I know, it's a rather odd resolution, and frustrating that it is the maximum.

In just about any game where I can select this resolution, the image quality is fantastic.

Unfortunately, in RW I cannot select this resolution. The closest and only resolution I can select (I cannot remember off the top of my head) is lower than this, and looks terrible, even with the highest anti-alias settings. Why is it that I can only select one resolution? Even changing my desktop resolution and changing settings in the NVIDIA control panel doesn't allow me to select any more than one resolution option for RW. In nearly any other game, it is possible to select other resolutions, and it crops fine and looks clear and crisp.

I tried editing the config files which dictate the resolution, and I only get an error message and cannot run the game.

Is there any possibility that in a future update more resolutions will be supported? Even if I could select a simillar resolution and have it cropped to 1366x768 which works in most other games. It's incredibly frustrating that RW is about the only game I can run on this PC which I cannot run at my native resolution and as I mentioned, no matter how high the AA settings are, the game looks so messy and unclear that it actually hurts my eyes to play! So much so that I can only tolerate playing for about fifteen minutes or so.

After having purchased RW and many of the official addons via steam, it's rather upsetting that I can only play for about fifteen minutes or so before having to quit in frustration. It bothers me that I have spent so much money on a such an otherwise superb product which I rather like, and am effectively unable to play it!

Many thanks for reading this and hopeful for a solution,

James

I would consider running in windowed mode if your native resolution is not supported.
The value of your investments may go up as well as down.

Also worth considering; Check to see if your monitor is using the generic "Plug n Play" drivers or if you've installed the manufacturer ones. Sometimes a "Plug n Play" driver will give you all the resolutions (including non native) and your manufacturer ones will only give the "supported" ones.

If possible a 2560x1440 resolution (16:9 aspect ratio) would be very welcome.

Not sure if this is slightly off topic, but I sometimes run RW windowed and sometimes full screen, and would really like it to remember the resolutions for each, so that I can just tick or untick the box without having to choose from the list and check the resolution each time.
