New to RS and having problems

Post by AaronR »

Hi there, i have just purchased Railsim and installed it on my laptop with Vista, but im experiencing problems. It starts ok, and i can choose routes etc, but then it takes a while to load, then when i go onto free roam i cant seem to click and choose on a train, and when i try a scenario the play is really jerky and the graphics not so clear, with blue flashes in the sky etc, my laptop is quite new and according to the gameplay rating its currently running at 3.0 Im not computer minded at all so can someone help in easy terms!! lol

I would try going into the options and start with all the settings at low and see how that goes, then gradually move settings up one step at a time. What graphics card does your laptop have? I think you do need to have a reasonable dedicated graphics card to run RS. Loading routes takes ages on my laptop too. :)

Agreed.

Go into the options settings in RS and lower the graphics settings such as particle & texture density and prehaps turn off high detail shadows & the like just to ease things up a little. Unfortunately I have also found that laptops are not very good performers when it comes to Simulators.

For instance:

My desktop specs are:
4 years old
Pentium 4 3.2Ghz
1.75Gb RAM
Geforce 7300 graphics card
Windows XP

My laptop specs are:
3 months old
AMD XD Dual-Core 2.1Ghz
3Gb RAM
Geforce 8200M
Windows Vista

& my desktop loads the same route in about half the time on much higher graphics settings than my laptop, for which I am slightly disappointed but not all that surprised.
However that is not to say that laptops wont run RS, you just have to settle for lower graphics settings & go make a cup of tea while waiting for it to load.

I dont think you would be able to fit a new graphics card, its usually not possible on a laptop anyway.
