Track Rules

Post by Otterbear2 »

Following the RSDL guidelines(log), on the development of the "Test Track" for RW...,

I first used all the same track type (yard), to have the proper radius's, and then I went back to change/adjust the track type and the only option I get for most options is "unchanged".

Also, I CAN get "track rules" to work, but the Track isn't listed Under "Current Rule set"...Somehow I've basically applied the rule to ALL track in the list...which I'm sure is part of my problem.

My track-rules blue print is exactly the same as the RW Defaults...only I had to change the default speeds.

Any Ideas? Thanks again for the help.

Hi,

you have to use the marked Icon as in the picture below. The difference between the icons is that the first one uses (list) only tracks defined in your used trackrule. Only the tracktypes defined by your used trackrule can be modified in their options. If you use a tracktype that is a different one as listed, you can use it but you can't modify the options.

Thanks for the help Bullet399,
However, if you look at the screen caps I posted you can see, That is exactly my problem. I have created a track rule " My Track " and the tracks that I have added in my "track rule" do not list under the first button. That's what I cant figure out.

There are things in the Track Rule blueprint that are not documented:

The absolute blueprint ID is one of them. Its not mentioned in the Wiki.
So what happens (I think), if you don't create an "absolute blueprint id" is that the NEW rule is applied to ALL track in RW and nothing shows in under "current rules" in the editor.
and like you have stated - anything outside of the current rules set cannot be modified.
Even AFTER adding track under "absolute Blueprint"...nothing shows under the Current Track rule.
I have made what I think, are exact copies of the RW track rules...with only the track type and speed changes made...and still nothing.
My Track rule does show up, which would indicate that it is correctly set up - at least in part. but for the life of me I cant explain why my tracks are not being listed. (there are only 2 places to add track types in the blueprint..."absolute and Default".
Neither of which work for me.(I've even tried both)...stll nothing shows.
(The wiki does say "To Add a Track Type to the blueprint first expand the track type field by clicking the + symbol and then click on the Insert First button." , and the only place to do this in under "absolute blueprint ID" so, I have of course tried this...still nothing.)

in your Blueprint you have to use \RailNetwork\Track\york_newc_track01.xml instead of \RailNetwork\Track\york_newc_track01.bin
place cursor in the Blueprint ID Field and edit manually.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,....Did I say "THANK YOU!"?...Thank you.
OMG! why isn't THAT documented. (I've come across that .bin / .xml discrepancy on several occasions...sometimes changing it works, sometimes is messes everything up).

However, I'm still not getting any track listed under "current rules"...using my "track rules".

Well now, I cant get album screen shots to post for some reason.
I'm starting to get a headache.

The reason why the album does not work will be that you have a blank in the file name (between k and r in Track rule).

Thanks again.

I got a little desperate and deleted the route, the development folders and my assets folder, because even after deleting all traces of the track rule and/or blueprint, I was stuck with a really screwy situation where the track rules kept disappearing and stuff. I did a check and about 11 files failed verification. So, I let Steam re-download them but this did me no favors either. So, I've had to un-install and re-install just to make sure I'm working with a full deck here.
I WILL get back with you if I cant get this track rule thing working though.

I renamed the file to "trackrule.jpg"...but it still wont show. Starting to see a pattern here? :o
