Any word on upcoming patches?

Post by SuperTux »

While I am very happy with the 3D side of things so far, we have great trains emerging from all sorts of places and I look forward to seeing more, but I have not seen much word about the deep core issues such as AI consist operations, headlights and improvements to the AI/Dispatcher to make it more robust?

Many thanks and Happy Christmas :).

I'm pretty sure things like this will be covered in the new year, Matt.

Hi
I hope you base this on insider knowledge........rather than blind optimism.
And before anyone says ........ I do genuinely wish Railworks becomes a good sim.

Cheers

There are many things that do need to be updated in the game core, but i do think it will take time for them to come through. Look at tilting for example. The have managed to get it right on one train(fantastic that it's achieved), so how difficult can it be to implement it into the game core to allow the actual track to tilt/cant, allowing all trains(default, payware or freeware) in the game using that line to have a bit of cant, as is in the real world. but for that to happen, there would be a lot of research required, which can sometimes be costly, so I don't blame them for the time period for updates to be released. I think we should help them out by purchasing DLC to fund there research, allowing us end users to benefit from it. :-?

This is my thinking, I may be wrong in saying that, but I do know there is some truth in my statement.

Posting in an unofficial manner... but I don't see any harm in passing on the information.

We have been making a number of changes for the upcoming German release. Everyone will get these changes but not until the release of the German boxed product next year.
We will of course be putting out updates before then, (we had hoped to get one out before Christmas and while the version is done, it needs more testing and well Christmas just snuck up on us) so currently we have 2 beta versions in testing!
The first update will most likely be in mid Jan, then probably a second a month later, then I'm guessing the 3rd one of the year will be the German release update.
The aim is to have an update every month, but it does depend on other outside factors.

regards

Derek

Derek, All I ask is please, please, please have the updates properly BETA tested this time. The past releases were released with some pretty obvious stuff, but went unnoticed, it's annoying for both creators and users when something that previously worked suddenly refuses to, and then this place (and others) gets bombarded with "Steam killed my "x" " or the "Update is {insert a curse word if you must}", etc..

A properly tested and fairly bug free ( :P ) release, would help bring the community (as a whole) together and more praise (if warrented) on various forums might help some new guys join in with the 'Railworks' train...

Well I actually think that is an unfair post.

I am sure rs.com do not intentionally put out updates that they know are faulty. Working in the IT business myself I know how difficult it is to send out updates that work 100% across the board for your userbase.

Yes - when an update comes along that has unforeseen effects it is annoying but give the guys some credit - they don't set out to cause problems - they updates are there to fix problems and enhance things.
Kindest regards

Nice idea. When I buy third party content does this help towards their core products support? They seem to be priced fairly similarly, if not more expensively. Maybe there is some truth in that statement. :argue:

Hi

Good point John but, I think product confidence is very important , certainly in the commercial world.
Although I'm guessing R & D is a much lower budget in the gaming world, and the industry and public except failures easier.
Nevertheless there does come a cutoff , for instance Trainz.
Having seen that product 'develop' over the years, and now reading its latest offering failing.
Would mean personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
I bought RS cheaply, but will not be buying RW until its 'fully' developed and stable, for a least 3 months.

Cheers

Looking forward to seeing what the updates might bring and particularly the new German content.

Wonder if it would also be possible to include some of the "official" Mark One reskins to enhance the core product?

Now my route building has switched to RW (and like others I'm beginning to be concerned whether TS2010 will even run on my computer, let alone allow me to build routes) I certainly have no wish to see a repeat of the route "nuking" bug which slipped into one of the updates. Even then, I think the issue was not so much that the bug happened but more that the update wasn't pulled from Steam along with a rollback of the version until the bug was killed.

I wouldn't worry too much about TS2010, judging by the shots they have up on their site. I can't see any reason why you couldn't run it if you're capable of running (and creating in) Railworks. :)

I didn't intend for it to sound or seem an unfair post. The fact is / was, the last "patch" before 92.8c appeared actually caused damage to user created scenarios / routes in certain circumstances. (IIRC - I don't have time at this moment to search out the exact blog(s) / forum post(s) that related to this issue. This is something that BETA testing should have picked up on, and for some reason it did not..
