How will MSTS look on a 22" or 24" wide screen monitor?

Awful! I have a 22" monitor and MSTS stretched is ugly! I now play MSTS in a "window" so the proportions are normal. Perhaps Open Rails will be able to make widescreen simming a reality (it might already have!)

The XNA code is a windows application....and hence will display at whatever resolution your PC supports.

And to add to the answer to Andy's question...MSTS will only display in 4:3 ratio resolutions....640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 being the options, in either 16 or 32 bit colour.

Displaying on a wide screen monitor in full screen will result in the display being distorted...unless you set the "Display using native resolution" or similar option in your card settings, and then you'll get the screen displaying in the right proportion with a black band down each side.

From a slightly more basic view. On a big screen monitor MSTS will be bigger subject to the limitations listed.

Having played with it on the 72" projection monitors in the customer business centre demo rooms at work it does look good. North Wales Coast on the 72" screen is impressive even though the resolution was locked to 1024 * 768 by my choice. The surround sound helped when I opened the throttle hard.

Having said that my PC was only there to do a boring works presentation but I couldn't resist having a blast whilst we were setting up. Just to check out the projector you understand ;-)

Now how do I go about persuading SWMBO that I need a 72" monitor ?
Kindest regards

What about sending the signal through a projector onto the wall or screen?

How about just running a DVI cable from the graphics card to the Flat Screen TV - you know it makes sense. Or just get a projector of your own and throw it on the wall, with the height of the wall being the only restriction

I've had MSTS up on the 32" TV albeit in 1024x768 32bit mode but it looks great

Why stop at 72" John, you can get a nice 82" touch screen for a measly £36,880.
We got a 48" HD last Christmas which can be hooked up to the HDMI port on the PC, ( very rarely gets used though I might add )
one of my daughers said, that's too big, ( because she only had a 36" screen ) and my reply was, there's only one that's too big, and that's the one that won't fit through the door"

Pictures Mr Lewis sitting on Santas knee (not a pretty site ) or groveling on the Bank Managers floor while his SWMBO is at the divorce lawyers :D :D

Suppose there is a plus side to an 82" touchscreen

:-p

OK guys - that will be enough fun at my expense.

I might have to set Bronwyn off stalking you on Facebook. Talk to RobertM about that ;-)

Actually what I would like to to hack the neighbours off and plant a class 47 in the garden and rev it up now and again but that is a different story you can ask me later.

Is what easy enough? MSTS in a window or OR full screen without distortion, either way, the answer is yes.
Window-ed mode for MSTS can either be set in the "Run" command, or MSTS start-up options in "Trainstore"

Following this subject on further. I have a Compaq P1220 CRT monitor. Plays Train Sim very nice 1600 x 1200. However, think tube is on the way out.
I am thinking of buying an LG Widescreen 24" monitor 1920 x 1200 resolution, however, running at 4.3 can I attain 1600 x 1200 resolution for Train Sim?
And also, is the LG a better picture than the old Compaq monitor, I presume it is but would like any feedback, which would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
