What I would like to see happen with RailWorks
Well I've been playing and tinkering with RailWorks for sometime and well the game play hasn't improved over Rail Simulator sorry to be blunt.
The addition of the class 37 however is an improvement and all did seem to lookup with the steam system sending live updates on the trot
and it does work it's just the updates that come down are not really that substantial witch leads me to this post.
Now don't get me wrong I do like RW and am not one to stamp my feet and say FIX IT FIX IT NOW.
But with the ability to send live changes should really be used to there advantage not just for fixes but for Simulation Exsperance Enhancements.
Here is a list I would like to see (please remember I am not saying DO IT DO IT NOW it just a post on what I would really like to see).
Fist of all a new class 47 it's not that there is anything wrong with the currant one it's just put up against the class 37, 55 and you'll see there is a distinct lack of quality in the model
Supper elevation I know that it's not needed in the simulator but for the authenticity I think it would be very popular.
Canter I.E. cab sway and rolling stock sway if you ever ride the cab of a class 47 on a slow fight line you'll know what I mean
Track sounds, a more random flange squeal tat-tat tat-tat for Bo-Bo locos and tat-tat-tat tat-tat-tat for Co-Co locos point’s, axle sliding on tight bends
TPWS witch in Rail Simulator worked doesn't seem to now.
Vigilance alarm on modern loco's (not known on units to my knowlage)
Improvement’s on the overhead UK and Europe over head needs to snap to post's not track
The ability to choose you're own weather conditions.
Zoom camera functions piticuly in free roam
Full start up procedures I.E. activating the AWS priming diesel engines.
Free roam via the map pick a place on the map and be there.
I think and hope I’ve coved all hopes and wishes here but if you have any please post

You do have a point, there are many things that we would all like. I for one, stand with you on the point of correct junctions sounds for the different bogie configurations, cab specific sounds, the way certain things sound from inside the cab, swaying of the train through junctions at speed and on freight lines, even tilting(track based, not train based) would be sweet. How about the correct startup process for diesels, from activation of the auxiliary battery to swinging the start, and priming the brake cylinders, charging the air compressors and all that, wouldn't it be amazing. But i think there are even more things people would love to see, even on route building and scenario creation. I'm only starting to get into the scenario creation bit now, and already, i'm seeing faults, but there is hope for us all. It is just going to take a little time, and all of these changes would come into effect. RW now needs funding for all this development, so what I am going to do, is help them, and purchase more and more DLC. Further more, I'd love to see what the the other users says about this topic.

I dont know, I think the Class 47 is still quite a nice model when its painted up well (witness the faded RM scheme in the YN modern route), but I wouldnt mind a version with the head code working. There were quite a few with this operating in my area, and would look much better than the domino headcode version. Id like the 125 tweaked a bit. Graduated braking, and the acceleration maybe bumped up a bit. Talking to a 125 driver for FGW on one of the rail forums, I think his basic comment is that you are lucky to get up to 125mph by Reading in Railworks, which is a bit of an exaggeration, but not so very much! Its particularly evident on the new newcastle route, where going uphill even with the throttle rammed wide open, it takes ages to get to 100mph let alone 125. As I say, Im just basing it on what this 125 driver said. It might be worth looking at.
Horns for 125 and 47. Bleh.
Aside from that, Its really not bad imho. The steam locomotives have been improved in their performance a great deal, and whilst some of the steam effects could be tweaked more, other than the ball of smoke as you sit stationary, its really not bad.
Oh, and water troughs. I really think these ought to be put in at some point. They have been in the manual since Railsimulator, and to do longer routes, they are going to be necessary.
More flexability on weather condition is a good point. I wanted to create a scenario at 8pm in a snowstorm, unfortunately the fog/ snowstorm option is too bright to do it right. Particularly when the moon shines through....
But its heading in the right direction. Maybe a couple more longer routes, (or at least extensions to existing ones, like Bath Templecombe) would be welcome of course. Maybe a Northern France route set in the early 70s? They still had some kettles running freight at that point. Maybe a nice big Nord 142...

Without wishing to dampen your spirits, this is the fifth time in the last week, in five different threads, that you've mentioned the need (in your view) for a new 47 - I think people have got the message by now...

Remodelling the 47 would be a ridiculous waste of time and effort.
There is so much variety in real world railway stock that it takes a lot of time to really start representing it fully in any simulator. To take time out to rebuild what has already been built would be foolish to say the very least.
Of course all of the required software is available for free (Blender/Paint Shop Pro), and all of the information needed to go about doing it is also available for free, so if it's such a pressing matter to you that you need to mention it in every post you make, then perhaps that time is better spent starting your own model.

It's been great to see some of the new stock coming through, though i suspect I am not alone in some elements of the game need tweaking. Things that would be top of my list (sorry if these are old ones, but...):
- ability to adjust the field of view independently for each camera view (a FOV that feels right outside means you see almost none of the cab) This may be techncially correct, but give us the option.
- the ability to move camera 4 as per other cameras rather than being fixed. Everytime I play MSTS I wish this was in RW.
- sounds other than idling on helper locos
- greater distance on sounds and loco lights - they suddenly appear as you appraoch another train.
- visible wheelslip
- sounds on steam locos in particular jump / cut out at speed.
I don't know how hard it is to fix these, but they would make a big difference to my enjoyment of RW.
Some more electrics, pantographs and catenery that rise and fall and neutral sections would be a dream too...

Sure it would gofthick and from some one who has a number of nice models in the pipeline it's easy to say, plus if this was the model to start on it would most likely not be an improvement witch would be a waste of time and effort, plus from the responses I've had it seems to favour some of us, also if say the likes of JT or DT did a model there could be so many possibility’s like brush powered sulzler powered I.E. different power out put's ploughs no ploughs buffer surrounds no buffer surrounds flush lights head code boxes the list is endless and as you have pointed out would it be a waste to remodel? So in my honest opinion it would be a very good idea and as a reasonably priced payware would be not a waste of time effort and there maybe some money to make from it witch railsimulator.com need to improve our sim....

Good point there bdy26. It is annoying when you could up a helper unit, and everything seems louder, I would guess that in the leading cab, you are only able to here the unit you are driving when it's standing still/idling. But then when you start feeding in those horses and really giving her some gas, you would be able to hear the helper engine giving her all. it does worry me, as i'm a person who loves sound, so when driving something like a 60, i would turn up the volume, just to hear her engines scream. all i do hear is a very loud idle, and the single engine from the pair. not really fun though.
Also, it would be great if the game could implement the overhead lines to snap to gantry's, and not the track. but that would mean redoing the entire route to make sure that the overheads stay basically in the region of where the pantograph would be. just to give it some more realism. I'm sure all of this will be added soon....

O and I agree we need more sparks but am sure they will come in time.

You can do this, just press 8 after you've pressed 4. You can move the camera forwards and backwards, left and right, even up and down (using Ctrl+cursors), it's rotateable by holding the RMB and moving the mouse.bdy26 wrote:the ability to move camera 4 as per other cameras rather than being fixed.
