Freeware 2-10-0 Tender Locomotive - Chinese QJ7014

Post by emrhd01 »

I thought I would Post a few pictures of this suberb model, that has been produced by our 'friends' in China.

Looking at what is provided with this free-ware Loco, the 'RailWorks Teams' had better pull their socks up with their 'Payware' packages in my opinion (especially in the sounds department), when you compare it to their recently released Gresley V2 Loco.

It comes with a 'Custom' Cab (complete with a correct view provided down the boiler side from inside the cab), head out views and the sounds are right for the Loco (to my ears anyway  ).

The headlights can be seen illuminating the track in the next two pictures.

To find out more have a look at these two Threads:
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 5&t=101083
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=101237

Many thanks go to the builder of this beast and also to those who brought it to my attention.

Edit: Just as a side note, I thought there was no whistle 'pull' for the Loco in the Cab, took me 2 hours to realise there is a foot pedal to control the whistle ('clever' these Chinese - shows my ignorance of the QJ's :-? ) below the Brake handles.

I agree with your findings. A lot of work has gone into this Freeware loco and the railworks team had better be noteing things down for other releases they may be thinking about!
Well done to our friends in china :)
Now if things like this will be implemented into other releases, I will be much more happy.
Also some decent track sounds need to be developed as the current 'thud, thud' sounds just don't do this game justice!
rant over :P

I had a look at this a week or so back and was very impressed but I have not downloaded yet.

This just reinforces the view that RailWorks has enormous potential which even the developers have yet to exploit, although I think Tornado will be the best yet.

this looks excellent in railworks but in RS it's pretty impressive, the MASSIVE white smoke being ejected at the rear, which covers the entire opposite running lines lol. The sounds and model itself are excellent! the light works nicely too, only problem i had was trying to move some wagons, 8psi wasn't enough to release the brakes? lol.

I have got it now and what a superb loco it is -

Check out the twin whistles that shoot steam upwards in a most impressive way.

I downloaded it for railsim and must say that it was probably my most enjoyable drive, because of the unbelievable amount of detail (look at those springs!), the new cab and the new sounds that 'sound right'. There is a compatability issue though, as there are huge amounts of steam coming out of the cylinders and cab side. If any of you still play Rail Sim, then make sure you're not missing out!

Yes, I see what you mean. Much noisier and steamier in Rail Simulator for some reason. I do not think this is correct and the loco has probably been designed to only work properly in RailWorks.

Find the CHINA folder in the RailWorks/Assets folder, copy the CHINA folder, paste into RailSimulator/Assets folder, run Rail Simulator in route of your choice, go into scenario editor, select CHINA from the object set filter, Chinese Loco will be found in loco listing for placing in route.

The steam blows out all of the time unfortunately in Rail Simulator.

Oh I see you have to install it into Railworks first and copy it over. That'd be a problem for someone who doesn't have it  .
Thanks anyway,

Hi

The .rwp file is just a fancy .zip file. If you change the extension of the .rwp file to .zip and then try to unzip it with a good unzipper you will find the CHINA folder inside. Extract that folder from the .zip file and paste it into your RailSimulator/Assets folder and away you go. RailWorks not required.

This free unzipper does the trick - http://www.7-zip.org/

Sometimes I like trying out the marvellous Chinese electric locos on Castle Rock Renfe which is fully electrified. I just wish a Chinese gor or sad would make a proper Chinese route to run these on
Image

There's also this US loco Iowa interstate Railroad QJ based on one of the Chinese ones but I couldn't get the coupling to work
