Southern/BR Q1 Class

Fire up your 3D modelling tool and start building some rolling stock, or find out what others are previewing here. If you have questions about how to make the blueprints work or what names mean what in models, here's the place to find out your answers.

Cab added, once again getting the rough proportions. Next I need to sort out the chassis detail under the cab.

That sure is coming along nicely Pete!

I tend to take the same approach to a model - block things out in the right proportions - see if it looks right in game then add the detail.

Don't forget to take regular breaks - I always find this helps me to have a good look over things, that way I find I sometimes see things I've missed or got slightly wrong or "don't look right" - with a Q1 not much looks "right" to start with but it sure makes a contrast to everything else on the rails.

Keep up the good work but don't wear yourself out on it all this weekend.

All the best,

Chris :D

looking good dude! cant wait to give it a spin. I believe these engines were notorious for wheel slipping because of being so lightly built, but nice machines nethertheless.

if its the same quality as your wagon packs, then we're all in for a treat! :P

Thanks guys, really appreciate the encouragement :)

Sorted out the area under the cab, added some detailing to the back of the cab and added the sand boxes (the one in the middle is the wrong way around in this pic but I've corrected it since!)

Off to a flying start there, I'll be keeping a close eye on this one. :)

Mechanical lubricator is all done.
Spent last night with the wheels, lubricator and a basic shape for the body getting the animations sorted out. TOTAL nightmare and much hairpulling but grinned like a cheshire cat at 23:45 when it all came together perfectly.
Word of warning to anyone using steampsi's blender exporter and making a loco.. if you need more than 8 animations (bearing in mind you are limited to 1 object per animation due to a badly written export routine) + wheel sets then it's not going to be workable. Oh and that doesn't include the factor of 10 that all rotations are wrong by! I had to manually adjust 72 points on an IPO curve to get it to work correctly

Hopefully Henning is going to fix all this with his new all singing, all dancing version! Anyway, the Q1 is 3 wheel sets, 2 rods and 2 parts to the lubricator so the build is going ahead... full steam!

Enough typing, the lubricator....

Next task is to add some more curve to the boiler/firebox casings (thanks to Bob for the pointer on that) and then it's on with the small detailing.
