Notes after Completing Instruction

Post by ckmemphis »

Hi there,

I just have one question. At the end of an instruction, you are given the option to add in text for the scenario being completed or failed. On the scenario that I'm working on, I do have quite a few instructions, all of which has a note to say that the instruction is complete, and further instructions to complete the next objective. Now in the beginning of the scenario, the notes appear as expected, and it looks great, but after some time (Roughly 1.5 hours into the scenario), the instruction notes do not appear on completion of the object. Is there a reason for that, or is that suppose to happen? Am I doing something wrong? These notes are vital to the basic feel of the scenario, without them, it would seem like just another scenario, but i want to create something that represents real life shunting, with waiting times and stopping periods, just like in the real environment. The idea is that these notes will tell the player everything they need to know about what to do, and where to go. Without them, the scenario looses it touch. Could some kind soul please help me through this confusing time.

CK

It would seem by your explanation, that maybe you are relying on a msg which in fact is for a series of tasks. You can only have 1 instruction and message/per icon.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Would that mean that on the Consist Operation instruction, only one item is allowed for the message to appear? Would this also apply for the Stop At instruction, because I use those instructions as waypoints for the dispatcher to follow. I found that whilst the messages were still displaying, I had like 4 waypoints(basically a Stop At instruction, with the speed set to 1mph, instead of 0mph) in the instruction, and the message displayed well, but it was on a Consist operation(a drop-off one) that the messages stopped appearing. Also, when the messages were appearing, I had one Consist Operation that require to couple two consists, and at the end, the message appeared, so I'm sort of confused. Would that mean that I must have two or three Instructions to couple consists if I want the message to appear? And only one waypoint in the Stop At instruction?

Also, I would like to know, how do you get your "menu bars"/"dialog boxes" to be transparent, as you have it in the screenshot you provided in you reply. I've seen it on a few screenshots, but could not get mine to do that, and I think it looks extremely cool. How do I get it to be like that?

Thanks for the assistance, Chris

Hi CK, yes, if you want a message to be displayed when you go to "point X", then "point X" must be on it's own icon, or the very last instruction in a list, so if you had goto points "A, B, C & D", then your msg should be displayed at the end of the last stop - "point D". All Icons are read sequentially from the Drivers icon, and you can have as many icons that you need to get to the end of the route.

And I made the transparent boxes etc, as I cannot stand some silly msg coming up that blocks my view completely. Obviously others have too??

Hi Chris,

Thanks a million for the reply, it makes a lot of sense to me now. I will have to go back into my scenario to change it so that my messages can display at the right times.

Hi Chris, Stephan.

I have downloaded the transparent menus from the site in the thread, thanks for that. One thing i do notice, it doesn't change all of the menu's, like the menu's that the instructions are placed on. I see that in the zip file, only ui_bg is included, but there is no ui_bg_02_which is the menu's as displayed on the screenshot Chris attached from inside the HST. Is there a way I can get mine to also look like that? It's kinda weird to have the one set of menu's looking nice, and the others still looking the way it does. Ideas guys???
