Scottish Steam Spectacular

Thought I'd get a new thread rolling here.

With there being quite a few Scottish based routes available now, that being my main focus of interest, I've started taking screenshots on various routes of what are effectively, rough copies of steam railtours around the country. I try in my shots, to take them from vantage points that I know are accessible, to add some realism...rather than have some "floting in air" shots.

So to start off, a few of K4 No. 61994 "The Great Marquess", hauling an SRPS railtour from Perth to Aviemore, seen here on the South stretch of the Highland mainline towards Pitlochry and Killiecrankie :


The K4 makes a fine run out of Perth, in what seems like to be a nice morning on her Northern run.


The rain begins as the K4 readys to being her departure after a pathing stop at Dunkeld.


The rain continues to batter down as the K4 battles onwards, South of Pitlochry


The Gresley mogul emerges from Killiecrankie Tunnel, and the weather appears to be getting no better.

Black 5 No. 5305 returns through Fife to Edinburgh on a early evening in Autumn 80's, with a charter back to the capital :


No. 5305 slogs up the gradient, over the Jamestown Viaduct with a loaded 10 Mk1 railtour on the return to Edinburgh.


Still slogging it hard as the Black 5 emerges from North Queensferry tunnel.


Having crossed the Forth Bridge, the driver opens up 5305 once again, for the sprint from Dalmeny to Haymarket.


The 4-6-0 plunges into the Northern tunnel portal at Haymarket with the railtour.


Having been checked by a red signal in Princes Street Gardens, awaiting the freeing of a platform, 5305 slowly moves through the gardens when given a green aspect.


Arriving at Waverley, the train snaking it's way out of the Mound Tunnel.


I'm going to have to look at creating headboards for these tours now....

I did....for some reason, physics on firing for msts are nothing like firing in real life....the BATS Black 5 acts totally different from any Black 5 firing I've done, but I am not diving in to the eng. file and messing around with that! For some reason, I think I'd lose....

The First Foot Forth :

The date is January 1st 1997, and the SRPS Railtours are running two circular specials of the Fife Circle from Edinburgh Waverley, labelled "The First Foot Forth". Black 5 No. 44767 "George Stephenson" is up in Scotland, doing the honors while BR Green Class 37 No. D6607 "Ben Cruachan" is on the rear providing ETH. Here are some photos from the morning run, I'll upload the afternoon run in a few days :

Emerging from the Mound tunnel into the Princes Street Gardens


The Stanier workhorse picks up speed as she passes through the Gyle area.


Having slowed for the station at Dalmeny, the driver of No. 44767 then opens up the regulator to give the observers a good show.


After a stop at Inverkeithing, the Black 5 presses on Eastwards on the Inner Fife Circle route, seen hear at Hillend ( Dalgety Bay )


Having peaked the climb from Dalgety Bay, No. 44767 makes an easy run approaching Aberdour.


Now on the Fife Outer Circle, she works past Lumphinnans farm, before having to reduce speed for the sever curvature into Cowdenbeath.


Crossing the points at Inverkeithing Central Junction, slowing for another stop at Inverkeithing, this time for water.


Having been refreshed with water, No. 44767 storms up the gradient over the Jamestown Viaduct, heading back to the Capital. Once in Edinburgh, she will run out to Niddrie Junction to be watered and turned on the triangle, ready for the second run.

Very nice Jonny, and lovely tour by the looks of it, I am patiently awaiting her to awake from her slumbers and is a must see when she's back and moving! I really like the one at Gyle, lovely angle and shows off her elegance by being elevated bow to the mighty stanier

Hey Dave,

Glad you like the tweaked textures, hope you didn't mind. I've given the treatment to 62005, 61994, 45407, 44767, 45231 and 5690. If you're okay with it, I could upload them all?
I'll possibly doing the same sorta tweaking to an Apple Green 3444, 2005 and 1264 ( Along with her BR Black Varient ) if you'd be okay with it?

And glad everybody's liking the screenshots so far. I'll be doing the evening run within the next few days, and then, for my good friend Niall, a railtour up the Glasgow to Carlisle route....now, just which railtour to choose from first....

by all means mate you go for it that what they there for and i ant the best at texturing so if any one whats to do them then thats fine by me

Just to say I haven't forgotten the screenshots or reskins. Need to re-aliase the sounds for Dave's steam engines so that they are suitable for upload again ( currently my versions are aliased to either BATS or ELR sounds ).

Also working on a Mk1 reskin so that it could be suitabely used as Ex-TSO No. 99993, the LMS Club Car owned by WCRC. This is prominent on many tours such as the Great Britain which I will be featuring so would like to have it included in screenshots.

Also, need to move on to making headboards. However, they'd be set up as individual stock items with replaceable textures ( such as like the lamps on Dave's locos, just change the texture to change the headboard...but instead of it being a freightanim, it'd be a seperate Freight Item on the Stock Editor list ). However, I will need to find out how to change the eng files etc.. so I can place them correctly, so that they sit correctly on the engines. Whether or not I can do this with the aid of positioning on Shape Viewer I have no idea.
