GU/AP Class 317 Released.

It seems that GU certainly done the model justice they have certainly spent a lot of time checking for the finer detail that’s for sure.

I think cost is irrelevant, it comes down to how much personal value you will get from the product.

If you can afford it and will enjoy it and get plenty of use out of it then what is £19.99, certainly I will and therefore it is good value for money for me, I will get plenty of use out of it and I haven't yet been disappointed with an AP product, I haven't been disappointed with many DTG ones either.

If you would never drive it or would only use it for some AI traffic or are unable to afford it then £19.99 is too much for it, for you personally.

It costs what it costs as presumably the developer has worked out how much time he/she has put into it and how much he/she needs to sell it for to get a viable return when selling it.

As ever it comes down to knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Some people want to get high quality products for the price of very basic, poor and always overpriced DTG-s one? Really? Are You serious? I'm not brittish and only UK trains/locos I run in my scenarios are produced by 3rd party developers - AP, MKS, Victory Works, Bossman Games, Meshtools, JustTrains (steamers) and some others. Without those developers TS 20xx would have been dead long ago. At least for me. The price 19.99 is more than adequate, it's even cheap taking in count development time and fact that You'll get complete list of liveries, nice looking models, realistic physics and carefully recorded original soundset. Quality matter.

I agree AP have some fantastic packs in the website. One of my favourites is the class 91 enhancement pack that pack really brought that train to life as it was much needed.

My point being is how we have now done to these volume packs to reduce what you get in a pack from previous packs years ago it just seems a way for ap to stretch what they will get out of a pack. And pricing them way higher for less.

I watched Alan Thompson stream it yesterday as well and was unaware of his Cambridge route on his website. Which looked stunning really surprised this route has not been shown and promoted elsewhere with the level of detail in it.

Still on the fence with this 317 right now as like I said I won’t get the full use out of the pack as I am missing allot of ap packs that do not interest in to run the required scenarios

The AP promotional video and Alan Thomson's first look video both make the 317 look really good. My personal interest would be in the Class 318 (Scottish area units) so I will probably wait for this to appear in a sale, as I did with the Class 319 units. I'm interested to know what effect this 317 has on frame rates, as I find the 314/315 reduce my frame rate a lot. Not particularly concerned by the amount of packs needed for the included scenarios, as I've bought most AP releases already, but there are a lot of requirements for the scenarios. Personally I'm happy to use TS Tools to replace things as required but some may not be so happy to do so.

So it’s ok for those people to come here and shout and critice about Alan Thompson’s site because it is them yet as soon as I say anything critical about AP it’s not ok. As I said before one rule for certain people on here but they don’t like it when others have an opinion they don’t like.

Don’t see anything wrong with what Alan is doing he runs a website and attaches a cost to it. I bet these people moaning would be among the first to go ther and download if it was free and coming out of alans own pocket.

I also saw NO performance issues with the Class 317 (AP), no effect on frame rates on my set up.
Neither did I see a blue tinge on the rails - BTW that is a side effect of Viagra if you see blue tinges on everyday items!
