BVE brakes

Post by 31466 »

Are the brakes in BVE4 completely realistic?
In real life can you have the brake on notch 2 and reduce it to notch 1 or would you have to release the brakes and re-apply.
Also are all train brakes in real life notched or is it just certain units, I can't imagine a class 37 having notched brakes.
BVE might be right but I would just be interested to know.

Unfortunately BVE cannot recreate totally realistic brakes as it can only recreate notches. HSTs, most locos and single-handled trains are all notchless in real life.

Things like the 158, however, do have notches and you can go from 2nd brake notch down to first brake notch unlike older units such as the slam-door EMUs where to get a lesser brake force you had to totally release the brakes then reapply them.

Thanks for the information, I can now concentrate more on the classes that do have notched brakes like the 158, 156 and 323 to make it as realistic as possible.

I must disagree in certain respects regarding the 'older' slam door units. The EP brake could be reduced to a lower brake force without completely releasing in the first place, the only time that you would have to release completely would be if you were using auto brake.
