Concept BVE4 DMU :-)

Another popular Train Simulator with the notable highlight of being freeware! Also note the new OpenBVE version with many new features - well worth a look!

Concept BVE4 DMU :-)

Post by matrix358 »

morning! :)

its a bit late but I thought I'd just nip on here and apologise for the lack of updates on my site and the absence of BVE related downloads etc, its just been quite hectic over the past few months and i hope to get back on track with things as soon as possible!

I'm hoping to study graphic design at university this year, so I'll be working on a brand new valiant homepage as well as a new BVE4 train to coninside with the fresh new site appearance. I was considering creating the 180, but realise that we're seeking more controversial things at the moment, and it would be great to bring something to BVE that has never been done before. Hence why I have decided to create the class 195 concept dmu from scratch to breath life into what could be around the corner given a few years of development! Phew - but anyways, i'll try and update the site when I can, and i'll be working on the new train over the next few weeks and creating all the engine sounds and cab details from scratch. I'm particularly excited about the potential of rendering a 3D cab using two different lighting effects for both the day and night can views. This will create an amazing shadow transition when the train emerges from a tunnel. Should be awesome.

Cheers! :D

Sounds good- although the 180 would still be a great train to run on Maybank :D

lol not in this way as yet. Im going to be using two completely seperate CG rendered images with different shadows mapped to each. Basically, for each cab shot, there will be a unique light source which, when blended together, will create the effect of changing shadows within the cab environment. Im not going to be simply blacking out controls and buttons, im going to be rendering the cab exactly as it would be in the dark and in the light. I've trialed in this afternoon and the effect is well worth the extra effort!

As for the 180, it was my first ever creation for BVE and i do plan on creating a vastly improved version for BVE4 at some point in teh future - but this will be something completely different and i'm really enjoying creating it. The shell of the cab is now complete, its just a case of hand sculpting the dials etc from scratch now and editing sound and performance attributes :)

cheers

Hi,
Will the cab be completely hand made, or will it be photorealistic? It's just that most cabs are now photorealistic, as seen on all projects at http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk :)

hey, its going to be completely CGI, but rendered as an entire peice using cinema 4d or similar to provide a genuine photorealistic finish. I'm hoping to have the cab textured and finished by the end of next week so i'll deffos post some shots on the website when i can! cheers :)

How can Sam get a photorealistic cab when there is no such thing as a Class 195?

Interesting body shell, I particularly like that curved nose. However, can I make a suggestion as a real driver; albeit a shunt driver...?
That side window is very pokey - could perhaps modify the lines to accomodate a larger side window so that us poor footplate types can see down our trains without straining our poor little necks?!

I know it's only a game and all that, but that bodyshell is really very handsome - perhaps expansion to a four car with a pan well for running under the wires as well?!
