BVE Quick Reference

Post by TomB »

Some information on the basic structure of BVE files, useful for when using addons, and a keyboard reference.

BVE FOLDER STRUCTURE

The default path for installation is either

C:/Program Files/BVE

(for BVE2.x)

or

C:/Program Files/Mackoy/BVE4

(for BVE4.x)

If you have BVE4, *be careful* when installing addons that they install to your BVE4 folder - some will default to the BVE2 folder. Check the path in the auto installer.

Below this are two main folders

/Train
This contains a folder for each train you have installed

/Railway
This contains three further folders

/Railway/Route
This contains the route files, which are similar to "activities" in MSTs, you choose these in BVE. Often split up into more folders underneath i.e. there will be a folder for the Northern line, one for the Piccadilly etc.

/Railway/Object
This contains the objects which make up the BVE scenery

/Railway/Sound
This contains ambient sounds, such as station announcements and passing trains
