Three new trains

Post by Dwhite »

Hi All,

I just released three new trains at Bve in Glasgow, to add to your collection.

Image Image Image

Firstly, a Class 37/4 character version based on 37408. This is derived from Anthony Bowden's excellent Class 37, with kind permission from himself. It features, an almost 100% new sound set with authentic high quality stereo sounds, a completely new performance profile, and an animated night cab.

The train is a simulation of the 37 hauling four sleeper coaches on the night-time "Caledonian Sleeper", as is used on the west highland sleeper services from Fort William to London Euston (also known as the "Deerstalker Express").

Thanks also to Andy Slater for allowing me to use a couple of horn sounds.

Turn the volume up!

The next two trains are the Mark 3 DVT and the Class 90, and they should feel right at home on WJ-MKC. Both of these have top notch animated cabs courtesy of none other than Robert Glass. As with the 37 and 314, they also have a full set of original stereo sounds. Thanks also to John Owen for contributing some sounds to the class 90.

Click on the address in my sig to download!

Cheers!

Downloaded the 37 - WOW :D Good job there was no-one else in the house at the time! Excellent sounds and an excellent loco!

Not had chance to download the others yet, but they look just as good (though electric sounds aren't quite the same :) )

Well done!

You wait ages for a great new BVE loco to come along then 3 come at once :D . I especially like the 90 which is great for WJ-MKC (can't wait to give it a blast all the way to Rugby). I'm sure you can take a bit of constructive critisism though so I'll just point out that the DVT shouldn't have an ammeter (thier is something else their, but I'm not sure what), and the screen doesn't look raked back quite far enough. Other than that though great. At least the DVT can be used quite realistically as Virgin West Coast do have a habit of running trains in reverse formation (anyone know where they have a triangle or loop?) and I even saw one with the coaches the correct way around (standard to the north, first to the south) but with the DVT on the north end where the loco normally would be and aa 90 on the south end where the DVT should be. Must be trying to compete with MML on the stranges formation.

Well that 37 is bloody hellfire (pardon language).

Set up a run on Cross City south, opened the throttle...cat scattered, wife exclaimed WTF is that!

Should be required listening for the suits at next MS and Auran (who have repeatedly failed to fix the useless default 37 sound).

Now if only there was a RE for BVE!

This is what it's all about, what it's really all about.

Thats what we like to hear. Interest in BVE does seem to be just smouldering at the moment, this lot, WJ-R, and BVE 3, seems to be the flamethrower we need.

I've just been having a more expansive run on the Edinburgh - Dundee (I kept getting subscript errors on the Aberdeen version) and am further impressed. The braking sounds, okay really what you would hear in the train, but at the risk of using a cliche - sent shivers down my spine. Braking down for one of the curves, then throttling up again coming out the other side. The track sound, the sway - just so much more atmospheric and no matter how much you tweak and enhance MTS (or Trainz) it just feels more like driving a train.

To some extent I think we have lost our way with MTS. Many of us are spending time on creating detail half a mile away from the track, or worrying that a particular farmhouse is white when the real one should be brick or stone. MTS (and Trainz) may have given us powerful editing tools but the emphasis seems to be more on creating a 3D world, than a route on which to drive a train - which sounds and handles like the real thing.

Oh, BTW, Big Vern managed to overshoot Leuchars station - Form One and pee test time for me then!

I still enjoy and support MTS (and as far as it goes Trainz) but I think it's time to start embracing BVE (and Zusi) again which prove a good solid train sim doesn't require $2,000,000 or whatever to achieve.

Use BVE 2.5 instead of 2.3. It has more than 4096 .freeobj commands.

Not sure really whats happening with BVE 3 at the moment. A beta version BVE 2.9 was released not long ago but was withdrawn quite soon after. Sadly its not unreasonable to think that there were a lot of problems reported with it or for some other reason it was decided it was not yet ready for release. On the other hand it could have been a sucess and he is simply putting some finishing touches to the final version before release. Nothing wrong with optimism.

Got BVE 2.5 running now.

Have tested 2.9 and seemed quite stable. No one seems to know when 3.0 is coming out (howevr I suspect it will be head of MTS2!).

The only problem I've had with 2.5 is on the laptop. Running Edinburgh to Aberdeen not all the textures display and just outside Stonehaven the whole thing fell over with a BSOD and reboot.

I guess it's a laptop thing as the route runs okay on the main PC.
