Re: TSW - Train Sim World
TSW's audio capabilities - along with everything else constrained by an elderly game engine - should be much improved. Note the part in the video showing the ability to assign audio streams to individual elements of the loco. The animated suspension implies components could have dedicated physics too.

What are those things in rowing boats called, the bit where you rest the oars?.....TransportSteve wrote:and organise our computers accordingly over a period of time. Having a 40GB BETA base game foisted on us
These forums reflect daily how little organisation of their own PCs people actually do, and the Beta isn't something that's foisted on anybody---it's an option, we can refuse it if we want.
Most of us spend in the region of 8 hours in any 24 period asleep, computers don't need to so isn't that a good time to let it get on with it? If you're still young enough to be working that's at least another 8 hours that you can leave the PC to it's own devices. My argument still holds that the amount of free space on anybodys hard drive isn't determined by any provider of any content---we decide what we put on it, and if after a decade of using TS you're running out of space either delete something or buy a bigger disc. You said you'd need another SSD--yes, they're still relatively expensive so why not use a conventional (cheaper) drive for data that doesn't need fast access? How much junk is on your PC taking space up unnecessarily?TransportSteve wrote:it'll take 15/18 hours to install the damn thing
It doesn't matter if any download of game/program is 40, 50, 60, or 120 GB in size--if you want it you'll find the space for it and you seem to be just taking the opportunity to complain for the sake of it.
Unlike all the other game producers who give us the real facts, warts and all eh?TransportSteve wrote:DTG have been their usual selves in cherry picking what they want us to see
Maybe that's why they keep saying things along the lines of "watch for new announcements"TransportSteve wrote:we need to know beforehand exactly what has been created
Have you Riviera 50s? BRBluePack01? 6MTPack01? classes 08, 02, 13 in any of the various packs? When does *Heritage* start?david1 wrote:DTG have released very few heritage locos that they have made

Perhaps with the more efficient UE engine an SSD may be less critical to good game performance. Otherwise I'm going to need a bigger one.

The use of an SSD has always been more of a case of working around the *old* core's poor pre-fetch/read ahead/caching abilities then one of computing necessity so better performance in this respect should come with the use of Unreal.longbow wrote:Perhaps with the more efficient UE engine an SSD may be less critical to good game performance. Thankfully this, and many other questions will be answered (if only partly) in the 2 months that those who take advantage of the 'early access' can/may report upon.

Well I for one am looking forward to it warts and all, surely UE4 has got to better than what we have now even though the technology is now over 2 years old!

RW game engine is old now, but has capabilities that DTG just don't use. Sound files in traction from DTG is poor, take 91 and 180 are examples and yet AP can make very good sounds with this old game engine, the advanced scripting that AP has done with the class 205.longbow wrote:TSW's audio capabilities - along with everything else constrained by an elderly game engine - should be much improved. Yes I have all the old content, my concern is that use BR blue era are not going to be catered for, other than shunters little has been made by RSC/DTG. The only type 2 loco that thy have made is the class 31, type 4 only 47, type 5 only the ones still in regular service, all other content has been made by third parties and released by DTG. The new stuff is going to be detailed so harder to produce so most likely only professionals will do this, limiting the stock available.gptech wrote:Have you Riviera 50s? Re: TSW - Train Sim World
Rolling stock DLC creation has been the preserve of professionals for quite some time now. Third party rolling stock providers have stretched the boundaries of TS and I'm sure they can rise to the challenge of TSW. I'll be interested to hear from them what that will entail.

You should still buy the Pioneers Edition, but you will be discounted for the routes you already own.the204 wrote:Question; if I already own Semmeringbahn, can I get just the standard edition of TS2017 and still get the TSW beta?
That's my understanding at least.

Re: TSW - Train Sim World
Those unhappy that DTG will initially release only a US route, should remember that he-who-can-not-be-named is working on a UE4 based simulator as well, which will feature exclusively UK content and will also allow people to work in all roles. Multi-player I don't recall.
So UK goodness is coming for sure, in a new next-gen sim, even if it's not TSWorld and not published by DTG.

Re: TSW - Train Sim World
I would be surprised if DTG aren't already working on a UK route and content from other nations to release not to soon after the initial release. I may be wrong but I would be surprised if that didn't happen.
Then again I predicted a pre-Christmas release of the UE4 engined sim and I was wrong on that score

Re: TSW - Train Sim World
I think they may be doing a great job. Personally, I do not worry so much about European routes. For the beta I understand the have chosen one route and a few locos. I am quite sure that for marketing reasons for the first release they will announce at least a German and British route as well.
Remember, what you see now is designated as "pre-alpha" So there is a lot of work to do to get up to a beta level.
Looking forward to participate in the beta test.

TSW won't be a launch day purchase for me, not without knowing how or if it will run on my present set up.

Re: TSW - Train Sim World
And by what means will you know exactly how/if it runs on your machine? The best any of us can do is make an informed guess, no matter how many *real world* reports from actual users we read.davejc64 wrote:TSW won't be a launch day purchase for me, not without knowing how or if it will run on my present set up.
Does TS run OK on your present machine?...what are your specs?

Re: TSW - Train Sim World
Steam now has a refund-policy so once a full release is out (not the beta), and it has content which you would want to have, then I suppose you can just buy it, try it for a maximum of 2 hours, and request a refund if you find that it doesn't run at acceptable level on your PC.davejc64 wrote:TSW won't be a launch day purchase for me, not without knowing how or if it will run on my present set up.
But I have a feeling that as long as your PC meets their statement minimum specs, you will get quite a decent performance out of the new sim, and that even with settings turned down to get acceptable performance, you will still have better performance and better graphics than the current sim.
