New version 5.0.76

Added the much-requested option to the Scenario Editor screen, 'Swap in ALL scenarios for this route' - so if you wish to swap a loco or other rolling-stock item in multiple scenarios you can now do this with a single click once you have chosen the items to swap. Please note that unlike the other 'Swap' options, this one automatically saves all of the Scenario.bin and ScenarioProperties.xml files which are altered and exits the Scenario Editor screen when it finishes.

Please advise of any problems with this, it takes a while to run and I would suggest testing it on a clone of a route in the first instance...

Hi Mike,

I/we have a "RW_Tools Latest Version Is" thread over on the Steam forums which is updated by myself and kindly by other Steam forum members from time to time to keep us up to date with the latest patches for RW_Tools which i hope you don't mind but i was just wondering about something.

I've noticed that you've updated your full RW_Tools version to v5.0.76 which is currently the same version as your patch download link (1.9MB) but your new full version RW_Tools link is 11.7 MB in size and my current up to date "Rail Utilities/RW_Tools" folder is 9.62 MB in size.

My patched version being v5.0.76 does have the 'Swap in ALL scenarios for this route' option so i was just wondering if it would be recommended for us to install the full version of 11.7 MB?

Please forgive my odd question here as i don't want to waste any of your valuable time but do keep up your good work Mike.

Si.

Hi Si,

I no longer visit the Steam forums, because the last time I was on there, I responded to a user who wanted to swap rolling stock within a scenario. He had been told he could not do that, and I replied that of course he could using RW_Tools. After that I got a message from a moderator that 'You can't mention 3rd party programs on this forum, it is against Steam's rules'.

I am therefore intrigued that you are allowed to run such a thread :-)

To answer your query, the reason the new zip file is much larger than before is because the full version now includes the Help file, previously it was a separate download. If you have v5.0.76 then it should be exactly the same as the Full version.

The size of your RW_Tools folder will of course depend upon whether you have also installed the 'Thumbnails' package.

Thanks for your interest in and help with my program.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Ahh the help files, that would explain the different sizes in programs. We talk about RW_Tools quite a lot over on the Steam forums so i guess you were a bit unlucky with your experience which is a shame, i personally have never had an infraction so far but you never know. Still it's good we can contact you here if needed.

Thanks Mike.

Si.

Hi Mike

There are, in fact, two Steam forums devoted to TS - I suspect you are talking about the 'official' Steam Community forum which is moderated by RSC/DTG with very strict rules about what you can say, and consequently is pretty useless. The other forum http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/f ... .php?f=619 is very lightly moderated and I've never seen any attempt to stop the debate about third party items.

The ongoing thread about RW Tools http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=3227237 demonstrates this, as does this thread from Darren Porter http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=3242284 . I suggest that you have keep an eye on this forum.

At the end of May RSC/DTG issued a statement on 'their Steam forum' saying that Valve would be closing down the 'other' forum, but nothing has happened subsequently, and that statement has now vanished. This thread started by me, may be the only evidence left http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=3241720 .

Can I make a little request Mike, only if it is something that is easy to implement.

The 'find in multiple files feature' is really useful, but it gets a bit stunted by only being available within one selected directory at a time. Would it be possible to implement a feature where you select/tick files in one folder, go up a level and back into another folder, and select/tick files in there? The reason I ask is that this would make multiple replacements where items that are the same are broken into many different folders purely on a livery basis.

Hi Matthew,

You got me there, I had forgotten where the 'Find in multiple files' feature was :D

I will look at that, but it might be tricky to implement so I can't promise anything.

Hi Mike

Been running your utility for the last year and have always has an error message when swapping stock which I have never reported to you.

However I have just newly installed this version and I am still getting the same error message.

I go to edit selected scenario (anyone) and highlight the item i wish to swap. I then select use index file and highlight the replacement item in the rolling stock index.

I then select swap selected item and receive an Unexpected err in rw_tools 5.0.0076 which reads

Error #53 File not found
Module frmKickStart
Procedure Command10_Click

If I select ok to this error it swaps item correctly and all is ok.Every subsequent item I swao comes up with this error

Not a showstopper but could you tell me where I am going wrong . Running under admin privileges on Windows 8.1.

I will have a look at that, probably something I have changed which is not compatible with the Index file. I find that with a fast PC, the index file is somewhat redundant and had forgotten about using it. I normally just select rolling stock from the bottom right hand assets list.

Thanks for that heads-up Alan, I have joined the 'Other forum' you mentioned and glad to see it has not been closed down by the 'Thought Police'.

Hi Mike,

I was just checking for any possible inkling of an update for RW_Tools for our "RW_Tools Latest Version Is..." thread over on the (Other/Old) Steam Forum and noticed your post here.

I'm pretty sure you would get a very warm welcome if you were to introduce yourself and you are more than welcome to update us on our "RW_Tools Latest Version Is..." thread but i have to say we're pretty sharp when it comes to that, lol.

That said you may be inundated with questions regarding RW_Tools which we could teach you a few things about (seriously joking) so it may be an idea stay anonymous (if you want) and just have a good old chat about Railworks and enjoy yourself, i'll keep quiet and just say welcome back to our/your forum under whatever username you chose.

Take care,

Si.

Hi Si,

I have posted on that thread on the Steam forum and will try to keep up to date there as well. There seem to be a lot of confused users there, but a couple of you have posted really good responses and thank you for that.

I will try to check the forum daily from now on, however due to time differences between Europe and civilization, there will always be a delay in my responses. :D
