Problem swapping speed signs in 5.0.5x

Post by Wikkus »

Hi Mike, guys,

I was looking to swap out some speed signs on a commercial route and ran into a problem.

The route has been cloned and the maincontent.ap has been extracted.

I select the sign I want to swap and choose an alternate and away goes RW_Tools, however, as it nears the end of the process, I get an error:
Error: #438 Object support this property or method
Module: frmListRS
Procedure: Command1_Click
This is repeated twice, followed by a message to say that the operation is complete, however, it does not succeed in swapping the objects.

RW_Tools was installed as administrator and I am running it with administrator priveleges, UAC is off (Windows 7 64-bit). I was using 5.0.55 and updated to 5.0.58 too see if this helped, but it did not.

Hope it's just me being daft :)

Cheers,

Rik.

Hi Wikkus,

Can you tell me which route and which speed signs you were trying to swap in to it so that I can test this.

However it may be that as speed signs are interactive objects it may not be possible to swap them easily? They are not the same as swapping a building etc as the speed signs are linked to the tracks.

WCMLoS, Mike and I'm trying to replace the OxPadd ones with the York-Newcastle ones.

Hmm, I did wonder... Cheers for looking into it.

I tried this, and in the 'Substitute Existing Scenery Item' box, you should select 'Track Item' rather than 'Scenery Item' - however that won't help you as upon doing this, you will get a warning 'The object is an interactive object or track section and can not be substituted with this program'.

I remembered there was a problem with these things.

Arrgh... Your initial reply prompted me to try that, so I'm pleased that it's not just me, but that's a darned shame.

Would I be right to think that if I opened the relevant tracks.bin and do a careful find/replace this would work instead?

Cheers for all your help and the most useful bit of software ever, Mike :)

Hi Rik,

Not sure, but you could try cloning a small route and try on that clone to see what happens. If OK, then try it on your major route.

Happy to report that the above does indeed work. There are a few issues in placement for some of them which will need to be corrected by hand, but bulk swapping of the signs appears to have worked using find/replace on tracks.bin.

Cheers,

Rik.

Thanks Rik,

I wonder why I did not use that method in RW_Tools as that is how I removed the overhead lines etc originally.

Brain fade probably...

I have similar errors, when i click on "Edit Selected Scenario":

"Error: #339 Component 'superpicture2.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.
Module: frmShowRoutes
Procedure: Command10_Click"

But the superpicture2.ocx is there with 94208 bytes size, and doesn't seem to be corrupted.

There is a FAQ section on my web site with the following answer:-
Why do I get a message that SuperPicture2.ocx is not registered or is missing?
SuperPicture2.ocx is a file which displays pictures in various formats, it MUST be in the RW_Tools folder. Depending upon your PCs security settings, it may need to be registered. To do this, run RW_Tools and from the Options Menu select the option 'Register SuperPicture2.ocx' and then it should work OK.

However, if you download the latest full version of RW_Tools and install it, you should find that this problem is now fixed without your needing to do anything else.
