Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
Playing what is listed as a standard scenario just now (1701 Laneshaw Bridge Norbreck) I was surprised to find I was able to jump from player to a stopped AI train and back again. Is this a freak or a new feature of standard scenarios I've been unaware of?

Hi
I used timetabled scenarios on the Laneshaw Bridge route, you can do this on those scenarios & I use this concept on a number of them as it allows you to stand on the platform & wait for your train to arrive, catch it & return on another service.

Well I never. That feature of timetabled scenarios is news to me. Thanks Mark.

Re: Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
AP use this somtimes in there packs.
To be honest though I do find there are some bugs somtimes. Main one being the distance to next waypoint doesnt work. But if you overlook this it does work.

Re: Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
You can enable the jump feature on standard scenarios if you add -allowJump to the railworks shortcut
So for example "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\RailWorks.exe" -allowJump

Are there any significant differences between -allowjump and -followaitrain?choccy wrote:You can enable the jump feature on standard scenarios if you add -allowJump to the railworks shortcut

The command -followaitrain allows jumping to an AI train by CTRL+clicking on it. You can repeat this a number of times with different AI trains and/or return to the player train. There does appear to be a limit to the number of jumps you can make though. I have managed 5 jumps but it often only allows a couple of jumps.
I tried using -allow jump and it only allowed one jump from a player train to an AI train. No idea why?

Re: Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
So to clarify with an example - in a timetabled scenario I could drive my train into a platform, jump to a pilot engine and remove the coaches, then jump back into the player loco and run it back to the shed?
Re: Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
I have only experimented with followaitrain in standard scenarios. I could try the example you suggest when i get back to my PC.
Re: Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
Using this command does open up some possibilities for scenario developers but unfortunately not for the example you suggest.longbow wrote:So to clarify with an example - in a timetabled scenario I could drive my train into a platform, jump to a pilot engine and remove the coaches, then jump back into the player loco and run it back to the shed?
I think I'm right in saying that the limitations of the dispatcher and Ai trains in the game would not allow your example scenario to work.
The main use for the -followai train instruction (used together with enableasynckeys , to accelerate time) is for testing scenarios.
If you already have a working standard scenario then you can use this instruction to jump between the player train and Ai trains. In fact with this option enabled there is not a big distinction between player and AI trains. When you jump trains (contrary to statements in some forums) you are placed in the cab of the Ai train and have full control ( once the brakes have been reset) , also the player train you leave continues to proceed as if it were an AI train.
Re: Jumping between trains in Standard scenarios
It is possible to do this by using a standard scenario which terminates with the player train standing at the platform and chaining it to a free-roam scenario which continues where the first scenario left off. You can complete the rest of the actions in your example by jumping between pilot loco and the original player loco in free-roam. I have tested this out and found it quite interesting.longbow wrote:So to clarify with an example - in a timetabled scenario I could drive my train into a platform, jump to a pilot engine and remove the coaches, then jump back into the player loco and run it back to the shed?
